The materials include large dry erase posterboards that function as vertical whiteboards for group work, whiteboard markers in multiple colors, and small individual whiteboards for each student's desk. These tools are perfect for engaging high school students in Algebra 1 by encouraging active participation, collaboration, and immediate feedback during lessons.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, my students were genuinely excited. Many commented on how cool it was to have their own whiteboard at their desk and to be able to work on bigger posterboards with their peers. The novelty of standing up to solve problems on the vertical boards energized the classroom atmosphere. Students were eager to try out the colored markers, using different hues to highlight equations, steps in solving problems, or key terms like \"slope\" and \"intercept.\" The overall reaction was one of enthusiasm and curiosity, which is so important for engaging teenagers in math, a subject that can sometimes feel intimidating.\r\n\r\nI have implemented a clear process for how my students use these materials to maximize their learning:\r\n\r\nGroup Work on Vertical Boards: During lessons on topics like solving linear equations, graphing functions, or factoring, I divide the class into small groups of 3-4 students. Each group receives a dry erase posterboard and markers. Together, they work through problems, write out their steps, and draw graphs or tables right on the boards. This allows them to visually share their thinking and learn from each other's approaches. Afterward, groups present their solutions and reasoning to the class, which builds communication skills and reinforces understanding.\r\n\r\nIndividual Practice with Desk Whiteboards: For quick checks of understanding, I pose Algebra problems such as simplifying expressions or identifying function properties. Students write their answers on their personal whiteboards and hold them up simultaneously. This allows me to quickly assess who is confident and who may need extra help. It also encourages every student to actively participate, rather than just a few volunteers.\r\n\r\nError Analysis and Correction: When reviewing homework or practice problems, students use their individual boards to rewrite incorrect solutions, explain mistakes, or try alternative methods. This helps them engage critically with their errors and develop stronger problem-solving skills.\r\n\r\nCreative Color-Coding: Students use the colored markers to organize their work by highlighting variables, constants, or different steps in multi-step problems. This visual organization assists with clarity and retention.\r\n\r\nOverall, these new dry erase boards and markers have brought a fresh, interactive dimension to Algebra 1 lessons. They foster collaboration, immediate feedback, and student confidence in tackling algebraic concepts. I look forward to continuing to integrate these resources to support deeper understanding and make math engaging and accessible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1746852488283,"projectUrl":"project/renewing-math-360/9314380/","projectTitle":"Renewing Math 360","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sheeley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5225155_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1526670498276","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/wrhs-hunter"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_73873","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1181,"numTeachers":61,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":18,"percentBlack":17,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":53,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"19.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":67.9,"schoolId":73873,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Weston Ranch High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Weston Ranch High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/manteca-unified-school-district/weston-ranch-high-school/73873"}
