My special education students often struggle with reading and are hesitant to want to read independently, or at all. I have noticed an increase of independent reading as well as visible excitement for quiet reading times during our school week since we have received our new books. \r\n\r\nMy students are learning and understanding more about different types of book genres and text features, as well as taking ownership in choosing books that are just right for them. We had a \"Book Tasting\" event where the students were able to explore and get excited about all of the new books. Each week the students get to do \"book shopping\" in the classroom and rotate their selection of reading books.
