In addition, the durable gray bins have allowed them to sort the books I have already read in a way that is sustainable to them-too much structure can at times impede the spontaneity of the spark of our imagination.\r\n\r\nDuring our center time, which is free choice, my students grow a group of book buddies. At times, one of the grabs a book and reads it like me-teacher voice and all! Then, other times, they each grab a book and pretend to read it via a picture walk to one another.\r\n\r\nIt is a beautiful thing to see them take turns sharing ideas about an illustration and how they connect to it. To me, this is the most beneficial part of the day. I serve as a facilitator or observer from afar and take note of the building of new schema, vocabulary access and building and phrases being elongated with more vivid adjectives! \r\n\r\nMost of all, I love that my Bins of Books on our comfy carpet helps set the stage for my English Language Learners to partake in, and come away with new ways of communicating with their peers thru the browsing of a book, without the distraction of language. A simple pointing to a picture in the book, accompanied by a smile brings a sense of community and the idea that we care to make all our peers feel part of our little TK world.\r\n\r\nIt is my hope that as a most thoughtful donor, you also celebrate with us-every little seed of care makes our educational world become a place which builds opportunity for our future leaders and supports a world where budget limitations are erased.\r\n\r\nThank you from the bottom of this most thankful TK Teacher\r\nWith care,\r\nMs. R.
