Those little moments of encouragement have made PE even more enjoyable.\r\n\r\n\r\nMy students were genuinely excited when they saw the new equipment. They immediately wanted to try everything and were asking when we could use it. It reminded me how much new resources can make students feel excited about coming together and learning.\r\n\r\n\r\nWe will continue using the equipment to build our volleyball skills, coordination, and teamwork. When the students first saw the unboxed materials, their eyes lit up with curiosity. The bright rainbow tails of the comet balls and the colorful, soft texture of the puffer balls immediately captivated them. Students could hardly contain their excitement, eagerly pointing out their favorite neon colors and asking, \"Are we using these for outdoor games today?\" The friendly, approachable design of every single item removed any intimidation around physical play and got everyone eager to move.\r\nWe immediately put these versatile materials to work across our movement, coordination, and sensory breaks. The soft Kathfly pool noodles and Leyndo comet balls became instant hits for practicing throw-and-catch mechanics; the colorful ribbon tails on the comet balls made tracking them through the air intuitive and fun for all skill levels. Meanwhile, the Kikeep foam relay batons allowed us to practice track-and-field handoffs safely and comfortably, fostering a spirit of teamwork without any fear of dropped, heavy batons. During quieter moments or transitions, the Bedwina puffer balls served as fantastic sensory stress relief tools, helping students regulate their energy and refocus their attention after active play.\r\nLooking ahead, our students are using these items to complete a fun, cooperative obstacle course and field day challenge that they are designing themselves. The next steps in our physical education and sensory integration unit involve small groups creating their own custom relay races using the foam batons, designing tossing games with the pool noodles, and using the puffer balls for active mindfulness breaks between stations. Thanks to these engaging supplies, our students are not only building gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination, but they are also learning valuable lessons in teamwork, encouragement, and healthy movement habits.","fullyFundedDate":1784561110679,"projectUrl":"project/moving-learning-growing/10330929/","projectTitle":"Moving, Learning, Growing","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Chhipa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9163189_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1697933119120","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9163189"},{"teacherId":9163189,"projectId":10330926,"letterContent":"The arrival of the FlagHouse soft bat and ball brought an immediate wave of enthusiasm to our physical education class. When the students first laid eyes on the bright blue set, their excitement was uncontainable. Their faces lit up at the prospect of playing with equipment designed specifically to be lightweight, easy to handle, and approachable. Rather than feeling intimidated by hard athletic gear, the students instantly felt confident and eager to jump into action, with several asking if we could head outside right away to test out their new gear.\r\nWe put the soft bat and ball to use immediately in our adaptive games and skill-building station, where the soft PVC construction made a world of difference. It allowed our beginner and timid players to focus entirely on learning proper swinging mechanics, eye contact, and base running without any fear of impact. During one memorable class moment, a student who normally sits back during team sports stepped up to the plate, hit a solid line drive with the 27-inch bat, and sprinted to first base with a huge grin as the whole class cheered. The accessible design gave every single student a chance to participate meaningfully and experience the joy of athletic success.\r\nMoving forward, our students are using this equipment to prepare for a series of collaborative team challenges and modified kickball/softball games. The next steps in our physical education unit involve mastering defensive field positioning, learning how to track fly balls safely, and practicing supportive teamwork and sportspersonship. When the students first saw the deep black backdrop, glowing moon, and constellation details of the tapestry, there were literal gasps—they instantly fell in love with how cool and cozy it looked. Pairing that aesthetic backdrop with Andrew Clements' classic story of creative word-making created an instant wave of excitement. Students immediately started asking where we were hanging our new wall tapestry, and several avid readers zeroed in on Frindle, eagerly asking, \"Are we starting this book today?\"\r\nWe immediately put both resources to work to construct a cozy, inspiring, and immersive reading nook in our classroom. By hanging the tapestry as a focal backdrop, we transformed a plain corner of our room into a peaceful \"stargazing reading lounge\" that immediately enticed students to pick up a book. Reading Frindle under the stars has made our language arts block the highlight of the week. As we read about Nick Allen inventing a brand-new word for a pen, the atmospheric setting helped spark our students' imaginations. During our quiet reading block, students curled up in the new lounge space completely engrossed in the story, demonstrating deeper focus and a renewed love for literacy. \r\nAudible.com\r\nLooking ahead, our students are using Frindle as the launchpad for a multi-disciplinary creative writing and vocabulary project. Now that they are immersed in the plot, the next steps in our curriculum involve students inventing their own original words, writing pitch essays explaining their meanings, and creating mini-dictionaries to display in our class lounge. The tapestry will continue to frame our presentation space as students share their creative language projects with their peers.
