It has allowed them a welcoming environment to destress from whatever is going on at home, everyday school academic pressure, and fostering activities that address their social-emotional needs.\r\n\r\nOur school calming spaces allows teachers and students to conduct restorative justice practices to de-escalate situations in a student's everyday life. Sitting on the rug creates a safe space where students can freely express their emotions, thoughts, and worries with a guidance counselor or their teachers. As students make use of the floor rugs, fidgeting items, cooling light and hearing the sound of trickling waterfall, students are able to calm their minds before focusing on academic.
