It is difficult to predict what student's interests are going to be like each school year, however, given that we are a STEM school I thought it would be a wonderful idea to have a book on anatomy available to students who are interested in the medical field. They can use the book to practice drawing from accurate illustrations and it would also tie into what they are learning in their Human Body System's course. A large portion of our student population is of Latinx decent so I thought it would be affirming to expose students to Latin American artists with whom they'd likely share similarities in cultural upbringing. This document camera has significantly improved drawing demonstrations for our Studio Art classes. It's so convenient to be able to demonstrate in detail what I have on my teacher desk so that students can see and follow drawing steps. More traditional demonstration experiences involve a group of students surrounding a table and watching me draw. Having this document camera enables a more diverse learning experience. We are currently using them to store sketchbooks for our Studio Art classes. Students appreciate having the choice to leave their books in the art room instead of having to carry them in their already heavy backpacks. The shelving units have also come in handy to store curriculum binders and larger sets of drawings that would otherwise have no place to stay. One of the biggest struggles with being a teacher is that we always have to present something and walking back and forth in a large classroom just to change slides can be pretty inconvenient. It is so great that we can use the clicker to zoom in on an image too especially since we view a lot of art images when we analyze and critique art. My students and I appreciate the generous donations that made this project possible. It is the most loved object that we have in the classroom at the moment and it has helped us keep our pencils sharp for a variety of projects. Our studio arts classes are currently working with colored pencils and this sharpener really has been the hero of the classroom. If you view the photos I shared for this project, you can get a glimpse of the fruit drawing practice they did last week. The sharpener is very quick and efficient at keeping a nice point to our pencil supplies. Students had the opportunity to arrange their own still life using the props we received from this project. We arranged a mixture of faux fruits, wooden forms, and a skull model. The students practiced sketching the objects in pencil and then created a final version where they shaded the objects in charcoal pencil. Our students had so much fun drawing the props! Our older posters were started to fall off the wall from being up for a few years. These new posters are much easier to read than our previous ones and the examples printed on each poster help students see what each element and principle looks like in the real world.
