Our students were immediately drawn to the materials—especially the Mr. Men book collection and the hands-on math tools. One of our favorite early moments was during a small-group literacy lesson when students chose characters from the Mr. Men books and worked together to describe traits and emotions using magnetic letters on our board. The excitement was instant, and students who are often hesitant to participate were eager to share and explain their thinking.\r\nThe place value write-and-wipe boards and manipulatives have also become a daily part of our math groups. Students love being able to physically build numbers, erase, and try again without fear of making mistakes. Several students commented on how the room \"feels more fun\" and \"more like a real classroom,\" especially with the added organizational bins and calming sensory tools that help them stay focused and regulated. These materials have truly helped transform our temporary space into one where students feel comfortable taking risks and asking for help.\r\nNext, students will continue using these resources as we move deeper into literacy and math skill-building through small-group projects and learning stations. They will use the books and manipulatives to create short response projects, practice problem-solving strategies, and collaborate with peers in meaningful ways. Because of your generosity, our students now have a space that reflects their creativity, supports their learning needs, and reminds them that they are valued. Using acrylic paints, sponges, and white paint pens on black paper, students carefully planned and created a piece that reflects both creativity and emotion. Once completed, each artwork was placed in a black matted frame to be gifted to families who lost treasured belongings in the Palisades fire. One especially meaningful moment was watching students thoughtfully choose colors and details because they knew this piece would be something their parents could keep forever.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, there was an immediate sense of excitement and pride. Many commented that the supplies felt \"professional\" and made their work feel important. For students who experienced loss, having high-quality materials helped restore confidence and a sense of normalcy. They were deeply motivated knowing their artwork would become a meaningful gift for their families.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis project is just the beginning. Throughout the year, we will be creating additional art projects that can be added to the same frames as families continue rebuilding their lives. Students will explore new techniques and themes, allowing them to express growth, healing, and hope over time. These ongoing projects will help students process experiences through art while continuing to give something meaningful back to families who lost everything.\r\n\r\nYour generosity gave our students more than art supplies—you gave them a way to heal, to give, and to create something lasting.
