We were able to fulfill every students request for items that made them, as teens and women, feel good about themselves. I wish I could share the joy, shock, and genuine gratitude when they realized that those random wishes they made in August were granted. \r\nOne of the biggest wins is that our students felt seen and heard. They struggle daily to meet the challenges of all the roles they play--student, mother, daughter, sister, teenager--and oftentimes they don't get the recognition they crave and need for simply showing up. They learned that if they show up to school and take the time to build connections, they will get that recognition from us here at McAlister. \r\nWith a boost in attendance, our intent is to build on that momentum and have our girls dream big! We want to focus on a Wellness room/space. We're applying for a grant to cover some of the cost, and we're drafting a new Donors Choose project to cover the rest.\r\nWhen we started this Donors Choose, we were worried we would't get the support we needed. Most projects involve furniture, books, and other classroom materials.
