At first, I just wanted something different and new for my class to learn because in all of my years in 4th Grade (21 years) class, I've only taught them basketball, soccer, and flag football. I guess I was really starting to get bored myself without even knowing it. Since I am huge LA Kings fans of the NHL, I told myself why not introduce field hockey to my students since that's the closest thing to ice hockey. And most of all, introduce a sport that was not invented by Americans, but invented by someone else, our neighbors up north, Canada.\r\nThe students have been very welcoming to a new sport as the students have been telling me they are having fun learning a new sport. Right now, they are learning to dribble the ball (puck), passing it to each other, and shooting it into the net. I also show videos as a teaching tool in the aforementioned skill sets. The look on their faces says it all that I knew I did the right thing because all I see are smiles on their faces and the intensity when they try to shoot the ball into the net and a huge smile when they actually make the goal. The students insist that they know the sport well enough that they want to play as a team, but I told them we need to learn the basics first. The point I am trying to make is how excited they are for the sport. That alone tells me that I am glad I chose hockey to teach the students a sport that is other than our own, most of all, I introduced a new culture to them and they didn't reject. \r\nLastly, my students wrote thank you letters, but I was informed that he or she didn't request for them, but they all wanted to say thank you so much for all the equipment that was donated to our class They also wanted to know if the person who made the generous donation was Florida Panthers, or a Tampa Bay Lightning fan since I was informed that the donation came from the Sunshine State, Florida. Thank you for making our school year an awesome one.","fullyFundedDate":1768494748537,"projectUrl":"project/healthy-body-equals-healthy-minds/9723317/","projectTitle":"Healthy Body Equals Healthy Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Bisarra","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10267106"},{"teacherId":6231052,"projectId":9726969,"letterContent":"So far within this school year, my students and I have been actively using the new P.E. supplies to create a more interactive and inclusive curriculum in our SDC class. One memorable moment was during a cooperative fitness activity we designed using the new cones, soft foam balls, and hula hoops. There was a total of four groups, and the students targeted motor skills, teamwork, and communication, and each child was able to participate at their own level with appropriate support. The new materials made it possible to structure the activities in a way that encouraged engagement, movement, and success for every student. It has been exciting to see how these resources help students build confidence and enjoy physical activity in a meaningful way.\r\n When my students first saw the new P.E. materials, they were ecstatic and genuinely surprised. Several of them immediately began asking what the items were for and how we were able to get them. I explained that the equipment was donated specifically to our class so we could have more interactive and hands-on P.E. instruction in addition to what they already do with Ms. A. Their excitement was contagious, and it was wonderful to see how eager they were to explore and use the new materials.\r\n The next steps for my students involve expanding our P.E. lessons by creating circuit-style fitness centers that integrate a variety of fine and gross motor skills. With the new materials, students will rotate through stations that encourage movement, balance, coordination, and hands-on interaction. These circuits also give my students opportunities to collaborate with one another, practice turn-taking, and strengthen their communication skills in meaningful, structured ways. As we refine each center, students will continue building confidence, independence, and teamwork while engaging in activities that support both their physical development and social growth.","fullyFundedDate":1758672041909,"projectUrl":"project/stronger-bodies-stronger-minds-inclusi/9726969/","projectTitle":"Stronger Bodies, Stronger Minds: Inclusive PE for All","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jenkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6231052_orig.jpg?crop=644,644,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758227964919","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6231052"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7526","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":507,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":98,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":88.4,"schoolId":7526,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Madison Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Madison Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/madison-elementary-school/7526"}
