During a recent lesson on lines of symmetry and identifying different types of angles, students drew shapes, labeled right, acute, and obtuse angles, and tested lines of symmetry directly on their boards. Instead of solving problems on paper and waiting for feedback, every student was actively working, showing their thinking, and holding up their board so I could quickly assess understanding and address misconceptions in the moment.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were genuinely excited. Several students immediately asked if we would be using them every day. What stood out most was how much more willing students were to take risks. Because they could easily erase and revise their work, they were more confident trying challenging problems and explaining their reasoning. Even students who are typically hesitant to participate were eager to share their boards.\r\n\r\nNext, we are continuing our geometry unit by exploring parallel and perpendicular lines and classifying quadrilaterals. Students will use their boards to draw figures, justify their classifications, and explain how they know a shape belongs in a specific category. These tools are helping build mathematical confidence, deepen understanding, and ensure that every student is actively engaged in the learning process.","fullyFundedDate":1760020658024,"projectUrl":"project/small-groups-big-learning/9785647/","projectTitle":"Small Groups, Big Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cochran","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3039998_orig.jpg?crop=1682,1682,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759099919071","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3039998"},{"teacherId":3334100,"projectId":9131324,"letterContent":"The students at Loyola Village were thrilled when they first saw the tap shoes. For some students it took a few tries, but we were able to find the right size shoe for everyone.\r\nWe received the shoes towards the end of the 2024-25 school year, but we were still able to incorporate them into our final spring show. This was a pleasant surprise for the other students, staff, and families of Loyola Village.\r\nThis current school year I have plans to start tap with my 4/5 combo class.
