These materials have made an enormous difference in my students' ability to learn and grow in class. On the first day of school, my students came into a fully-stocked classroom with all of the materials they needed for success. We were able to set up and utilize interactive journals from the first day of school, which has led to increased student achievement and ownership over their learning. \r\n\r\nNow, a month into the school year, my students are taking charge of their learning. They maintain and organize our supply shelves, where materials like chart paper, whiteboard markers, glue, and clipboards are stored. As they work, students often get up to get a tool that might help them better explain or show their thinking. Students especially appreciate having a singular place to store their work, and do a great job of organizing their math and science journals. All of this wouldn't be possible without your generosity and support. \r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart-- thank you so much for supporting my classroom this year.","fullyFundedDate":1782334418475,"projectUrl":"project/collaborate-grow-in-5th-grade/10309902/","projectTitle":"Collaborate & Grow in 5th Grade!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Acosta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7897071_orig.png?crop=730,729,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770515111150","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7897071"},{"teacherId":9967616,"projectId":9697349,"letterContent":"Your generous donation of magnetic letters and chair pockets has made an immediate and meaningful impact in our literacy lab. They are were especially excited about the smelly markers and clay. When I showed them our supplies they all clapped and cheered, for some, it was the first time they ever touched and worked with clay. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. \r\n\r\nTo begin with, all of the 27 students from K-6 did individual research on an animal they picked from a box of student suggestions. Their research included a checklist, a fill in the blank form, and the option to create a slide show or a paragraph, every child created a poster display and a clay piece of which they made independently and painted. They had so much fun creating their posters with dots, sharpies, and smelly markers. When I asked them after we finished the project, their favorite part was the clay and the anticipation during the two days waiting for them to dry before we could paint them was so hard for them, they couldn't wait to paint them.\r\n\r\nIn the end, we created a \"zoo\" and displayed the clay projects, posters, and reports in our classroom. We invited other classrooms and staff to come enjoy the projects while our kids presented their projects. They are so excited for the next project and we still have enough clay for the next project that we are planning to do a food related project. We really wanted to let you know how much it means that you chose us of all classes.","fullyFundedDate":1758951609364,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-creative-minds/9659373/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Creative Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Yang","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8934597_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1679697649853","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8934597"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7354","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":270,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":93,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":83,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"12.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.5,"schoolId":7354,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lockwood Avenue Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lockwood Avenue Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/lockwood-avenue-elementary-school/7354"}
