The Perks of Being a Wallflower is an iconic coming of age text. It has a timeless relatability that was immediately enjoyed by students. Students were given the opportunity to explore this text safely with their peers in our classroom. Our students partnered with students at another school across LA county. I decided to include my 9th grade class in this project as well as my 10th graders. \r\n\r\nThe students were extremely excited to connect with their peers. The project ran through our Spring quarter. Students were so excited to send and receive their letters. It was a delight to have my students bombard me with questions about their incoming letter as soon as I entered the classroom. \r\n\r\nThis fall, we plan to meet up with last year's pen pals for an in-person field trip.
