This project has had an immediate and meaningful impact on my students' learning. In film, sound is just as important as visuals, yet it's often the hardest element for students to capture effectively with basic equipment. These microphones have allowed students to engage more deeply with the filmmaking process by producing clear, intentional audio. They are now able to experiment with dialogue, ambient sound, and tone in ways that mirror real-world film production, helping them better understand how technical choices shape storytelling.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for students is the professional quality of the equipment. Using boom mics has made them feel like a real film crew, and that sense of authenticity has increased both their engagement and their pride in their work. Students are collaborating more thoughtfully—assigning roles like sound operator and boom operator—and thinking critically about how to position microphones, control background noise, and capture emotion through sound. It has transformed our classroom from a basic production space into something that feels much closer to an industry environment.\r\n\r\nI've also seen particular students really come alive with this technology—especially those who may not have been as drawn to acting or directing. Some students who are more detail-oriented or technically inclined have taken ownership of sound design and recording, discovering a new creative outlet and leadership role within their groups. Others who are typically quieter have found confidence behind the scenes, contributing in meaningful and visible ways. Your support has not only improved the quality of our projects but has also expanded the ways students can see themselves as creators and collaborators. Thank you for making this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1769177666736,"projectUrl":"project/sounding-an-sos-my-film-studies-student/9800275/","projectTitle":"Sounding an SOS: My Film Studies Students Need Boom Mics!","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Batti","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10304992"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7006","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":363,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":53,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":7006,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about High Technical Los Angeles on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"High Technical Los Angeles","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/high-tech-high-school/7006"}
