In honor of our last 40 days of the school year, I encouraged my student to view their lives through the caterpillar's eyes, teaching that we are all part of a larger cycle of life. The caterpillar's transformation into a butterfly served as a powerful metaphor for my students' own growth. \r\n\r\nFor my special education students with visual impairments, we focused on how daily routines and healthy habits enrich their lives and help them grow. They learned that a consistent schedule of activity and nutrition empowers them to be more engaged in their unique journeys. Meanwhile, for my high school students in the general education program, the story took on a different meaning: it symbolized their own maturity and metamorphosis as they prepare to graduate and transition into adulthood. Through the use of the book which we adapted into braille, tactile manipulatives, and sensory toys that came because of this grant, my lesson became a memorable experience for each of my students, blending nostalgic comfort with a profound new perspective on their futures.","fullyFundedDate":1772467863204,"projectUrl":"project/the-very-multisensory-hungry-caterpillar/10064495/","projectTitle":"The Very MULTISENSORY Hungry Caterpillar for Students with Visual Impairment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Joanna","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10414426_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770932288824","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/blindlowvision-msjoanna"},{"teacherId":10414426,"projectId":10046792,"letterContent":"The projector and light lamps funded through DonorsChoose has transformed how my students with visual impairments access their curriculum. The new projector allowed my students to see graphs clearly on a large scale; for example, my student, Nico, recently succeeded in plotting points for algebraic equations because the display was large enough for his visual needs. This clarity has significantly boosted his conceptual understanding and active participation. \r\nAdditionally, night lamps have been vital for my students with cortical vision impairment (CVI). The soft lighting creates a calming environment that encourages my students like Angelikha to practice essential skills like scanning and visual focusing. These lamps also serve as a powerful motivational tool; my students are more engaged and focused during lessons knowing they can use the lamps for visual efficiency activities or as a reward afterward. \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1769292627639,"projectUrl":"project/lights-that-help-us-see/10046792/","projectTitle":"Lights That Help Us See","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Joanna","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10414426_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770932288824","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/blindlowvision-msjoanna"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7113","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1798,"numTeachers":83,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":37,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":55,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"21.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.7,"schoolId":7113,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ulysses S Grant High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ulysses S Grant High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/grant-community-tech-magnet-high-school/7113"}
