Because of your generosity, my students have been able to experience science in a much more hands-on and exciting way.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my 4th graders were incredibly excited. As we opened the boxes together, students leaned in to see what was inside and immediately began asking questions. Many of them wanted to hold the tools right away and started guessing what kinds of experiments we could do with them. It was clear that the materials sparked their curiosity right from the start.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun using the new resources during our science investigations. Recently, students used magnifying glasses and rock samples to closely observe different types of rocks and minerals. They worked in small groups, describing what they noticed about the texture, color, and patterns. One student excitedly pointed out a crystal formation in their sample, which led to a great conversation about how rocks form and change over time. It was a wonderful moment when students led the learning through their observations and questions.\r\n\r\nThe tools have also helped students work together and think more like scientists. Using measuring tools and thermometers, students have started collecting simple data during experiments and making predictions about what might happen next. These activities help them practice the scientific method while building confidence in their ideas.\r\n\r\nNext, we will use the electricity and simple machine kits in our upcoming lessons. Students will work in teams to build simple circuits and explore how energy moves. They will also experiment with forces and motion as they design small machines and test how they work. My students are already looking forward to building and experimenting.\r\n\r\nYour support has given my students opportunities they might not otherwise have had—to explore, ask questions, and discover how science works through real investigation. Thank you for helping bring these experiences into our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1761774276795,"projectUrl":"project/making-science-come-alive-in-our-classro/9693130/","projectTitle":"Making Science Come Alive in Our Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pérez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8264725_orig.jpg?crop=426,426,x140,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746567939570","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8264725"},{"teacherId":8264725,"projectId":9693161,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, *Urban Ecology: Kids Reimagining Our Neighborhood*. Your generosity has made a real difference in my students' lives, and we are incredibly grateful.\r\n\r\nThe new technology has helped students explore their community and environment in ways that go far beyond a traditional lesson. Using these tools, students can research local ecosystems, document what they observe in their neighborhoods, and create projects that connect science learning to the places they live. Technology allows them to capture photos, record ideas, analyze information, and present their thinking in creative ways. Instead of just reading about environmental science, they are actively investigating their own community and thinking about how cities and nature interact.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting for my students is the ability to use technology to tell the story of their neighborhood. Many of them were especially eager to use the tools to document plants, wildlife, and environmental features around our school. Students love creating digital presentations and sharing their discoveries with classmates. It has made learning feel more real and meaningful because they are studying the environment they see every day.\r\n\r\nA few students in particular have really thrived with this technology. Some of my quieter students who don't always raise their hands during discussions have found their voice through digital projects. One student, usually hesitant to participate, became incredibly engaged while photographing and documenting plants around our school, proudly sharing their findings with the class. Technology has helped these students build confidence and feel like their observations and ideas matter.\r\n\r\nProjects like this are especially powerful because many of my students come from urban communities where access to environmental learning opportunities can be limited. Programs that connect young people to nature demonstrate the power of hands-on environmental education to help students build curiosity, scientific skills, and a sense of connection to their community.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, my students are learning to see their neighborhood with new eyes as scientists, observers, and problem-solvers.
