My students have loved the materials from the project. The last year has been extremely difficult for our community and creating social emotional wellbeing is a priority for us this year. I introduced each new item over a few days and the students couldn't wait to try them out. They now ask for the breathing ball and breathing sloth regularly. They'll say, \"I'm upset, I need the sloth/ball\" and then go get it and sit quietly with it breathing to clam down. Sometimes when other students see a classmate who is sad they run and get one of the items and bring it to them. Not only are they learning tools for themselves, they are using the tools to show empathy for others. \r\n They also really like the lap pads which they describe as feeling \"like a hug.\" We have to negotiate taking turns with those since they love them so much. \r\n We have read the books that were part of the project and they came at a perfect time. We had a class performance coming up and one of the books was about finding your brave, something we used when some students got nervous. \r\n Finally, the mini trampoline and spinning stool are used daily to help the kids keep regulated. They love jumping and spinning and even use the trampoline to sit on when reading in the library area. I set both items out in the morning and several kids use them when they first come in. \r\n All of the items have helped bring calm and regulation to our classroom and I look forward to using them as the year progresses!","fullyFundedDate":1764572331848,"projectUrl":"project/wiggles-to-focus-nurturing-calm-bodies/9934931/","projectTitle":"Wiggles to Focus: Nurturing Calm Bodies and Growing Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Katie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9931871"},{"teacherId":9931871,"projectId":9869038,"letterContent":"Thank you for your donation to \"Fresh Air For Little Learners\"! After wildfires tore through our community last January, one of the big concerns has been health and safety, especially for our children. Our school was displaced for several months but thankfully we were able to return to our campus this Fall. Our school has done extensive work to help ensure the health of our students but having the AirDoctor filter in the classroom has helped us further protect our young students. \r\n The filter is quiet and responsive. It adjusts itself based on particulate matter sensed and it gives me peace of mind to know that it monitors the air quality in the classroom. We have it placed near our rug area where the students spend a lot of time working and playing. The specific filter we requested is designed for large spaces like our classroom so we know we have the most efficient option. My students were very excited when we got the books! They couldn't wait to try them out. I had selected two different sets of books which has worked out really well. One set has larger letters and numbers which is a great starting point for most students and the other set has smaller text with more repetition which is the perfect next step or added challenge for students who are ready. \r\n My little writers enjoy working in the books, and love the disappearing ink. They think it's like magic. The pens came with writing grips which support proper writing grasp. The kids get excited when they finish pages and are eager to show us their work. They are proud of their accomplishments and I can see the impact the books are having on their penmanship and writing confidence. It ensures that every student can hear clearly and feel included, which has made learning more engaging and accessible for all.\r\n\r\nThe new audio equipment has been incredibly exciting for our students. They were thrilled the first time they heard how clear and professional everything sounded, especially when using microphones or listening during group activities. It has made school assemblies feel more meaningful and special.\r\n\r\nThis technology has been especially impactful for students who are typically quiet or hesitant to share. It's been quite a year. I've had 4 different locations to teach in the past year and had a lot of trauma-healing in my professional and personal life. The money you donated helped me rebuild a supportive, caring, warm, and effective learning environment for all my students. It also helped create a space where students could grieve, learn and heal. During a time of such chaos and tragedy, it gave a little bit of familiarity and routine back into their lives. The money you donated helped create an amazing classroom where all my students felt welcomed and home. Without it, the new space I got, which I had access to just a week or two before school started, would've looked and felt like a barren, cold factory room. I was running on fumes by focusing on my students. This donation made rebuilding a classroom much less stressful (mentally and financially), difficult and traumatic. Thank you so much for helping out when my school needed it the most. I was able to buy books, learning supplies, art supplies, decor, manipulatives, cardstock, etc. I was even able to buy a few items that were lost in the fires to comfort students. I also bought resources to help with SEL and trauma-healing for my students. It's been a tough year but thank you again for everything.
