They say that it is sort of like making a movie in their mind based on the pictures and the words. Having many quality books at their comfortable reading level ensures that students will have the opportunity to create many more of these mind-movies, and fall deeper in love with reading and story. And, of course, the more we love to do something, the more we will do that thing, so I encourage students in my library to read, read, read! Students who are especially enjoying the new books are students who are positively stimulated by the bright colors and positive messages in the books included in the donation offerings. The pleasing aesthetics encourage students to want to figure out what the words are saying, so they can understand the beautiful pictures better. More reading!\r\nSome of the skills we focus on with the new books are: Genre (fiction vs nonfiction), Author Study, where we learn about an author and all the books in their series, such as, \"Pete the Cat,\" and Beginning, Middle, End, where we look at the arc of the story line, leading to better comprehension.
