Having a treat to offer them made a big difference in their demeanor and level of engagement. When working on a lesson meant to teach self advocacy, my students seemed content and attentive thanks to being able to enjoy a snack during the lesson. It was my hope that they would feel cared for and I think this really did the trick. The students who benefited from this generous donation have either graduated or chosen to remain in the program this school year so they could continue to benefit from the services I am able to provide them. The will continue to explore their options after high school, make a personal game plan, build their professional resumes and learn interviewing techniques. With the skills and knowledge they gain from the program, they will hopefully go on to live successful and independent lives after high school.","fullyFundedDate":1742582675805,"projectUrl":"project/from-high-school-to-adulthood/9180183/","projectTitle":"From High School to Adulthood","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Valenzuela","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9935558"},{"teacherId":8853839,"projectId":9672049,"letterContent":"The arrival of the new folklórico skirts has made an immediate and meaningful impact on our students. For the first time, every member of our growing club has access to their own costume piece, ensuring that no student is excluded from performances and have an appropriate practice experience. This resource allows us to meet the demands of invitations to perform during Hispanic Heritage Month and other cultural events with greater confidence and authenticity.\r\n\r\nStudents responded with genuine excitement when the skirts were first introduced. They were eager to try them on and see how the fabric moved with their dances, transforming practice into a more engaging and culturally accurate experience. Many students expressed pride in finally being able to perform in attire that reflects the traditions of folklórico, which deepened their sense of connection to the art form and to one another.\r\n\r\nCurrently, the skirts are being used to practice and perform both on campus and in the community. Having the proper attire has motivated students to refine their skills. It has also allowed us to plan collaborative showcases with other cultural organizations at Millikan, giving students additional opportunities to represent their heritage with dignity and pride.\r\n\r\nYour generous support has strengthened our Folklórico program and ensured that every student has the opportunity to participate fully. By providing these costumes, you have helped create an inclusive environment where students can celebrate culture, identity, and community through dance.","fullyFundedDate":1757391187820,"projectUrl":"project/skirts-that-tell-a-story-supporting-stu/9672049/","projectTitle":"Skirts That Tell a Story: Supporting Student Folklórico Performances","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Diaz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8853839_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756757820507","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/millikanfolklorico"},{"teacherId":3206160,"projectId":9252677,"letterContent":"From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for your kind donation. Your generosity has brought so much excitement and depth to our classroom, and I wanted to share just how much of a difference you've made.\r\n\r\nWith your support, my students have dived into Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, a book that's not only teaching them about literature but also helping them explore big ideas about identity and mental health. It's been amazing to see them connect with the story and build skills like analyzing symbolism and narrative voice. But even more, it's been wonderful to watch them reflect on their own experiences and grow as individuals.\r\n\r\nOne of my students, Lilian, who used to shy away from reading, has really connected with this book.
