For many, simply having a sharp, reliable pencil to start the day lifted a huge weight off their shoulders, bringing an immediate sense of equity and readiness to our space. We put the new pencils to work right away for our daily notetaking and textbook assignments. It was incredible to see how having the proper basic tools allowed them to focus completely on their historical reading and notes without worrying about where they would find something to write with.\r\n\r\nBuilding on this momentum, the students then dove into a historical activity: our Abraham Lincoln campaign poster project. Armed with their new standard pencils, colored pencils, paper, and rulers, they are synthesizing what they have learned into persuasive visual designs. They are using the rulers to map out crisp layouts, drafting their slogans and sketches in pencil, and finally using a vibrant array of colors to capture the spirit of the 1860 election. Your generous contribution has done more than just stock our classroom; it has given my students the exact tools they needed to turn abstract concepts into concrete, hands-on projects. Students were excited when they first saw the new materials and even more excited when they realized they would be using them during the job fair.\r\n\r\nThe job fair gave our students an opportunity to learn about careers they may not have previously considered and to practice introducing themselves, asking questions, and having conversations with adults in a professional setting.
