We ended the first week by watching a video on how to use chopsticks, as many students had never used them before, and enjoying rice, a tradition for prosperity and abundance.\r\n\r\nThank you so VERY much for making these extra special activities possible for my fifth graders! We thoroughly enjoyed learning about Lunar New Year and celebrating diversity, and we are extremely grateful to each of you for making this wish a reality. Students also enjoyed using the soap dispenser bottles to fill with hand sanitizer for our community service project this spring, creating care packages for seniors at a local assisted living facility. \r\n\r\nThe Marker Parkers were in high demand when we did our first project of the new year, and it was a wonderful thing to have markers returned without lost caps. The compasses will add an extra exciting element to our Camp Read-A-Lot room transformation at the end of the year, when students learn orienteering and mapping skills.\r\n\r\nI am incredibly thankful that you chose our classroom for your donation. It is YOU who brought this project to life and made so many wonderful learning experiences possible for our children, and 'thank you' seems insufficient to express my gratitude. At the end, each child was given their own bell necklace, as well as a chapstick, a hand sanitizer, and a candy cane reindeer that I made for them. They were also given a Polar Express crossword and word search, before proceeding to the next activity. I am also grateful for the Valentine's Day treats and additional black lights to use during our Glow Day Review for language arts and math before state-mandated testing. \r\n\r\nAll in all, it was an absolutely MARVELOUS way to end the 2025 year, and everyone agreed that this is something we need to do annually. This annual tradition soon included my partner teacher and his class. This year, I made Gifts in a Jar with the entire fifth grade, and it is truly one of my favorite activities, as well as theirs.\r\n\r\nWe arranged three, one hour sessions, as it takes about an hour for an entire class to make their jars. When students entered the classroom, I demonstrated the method of filling their jars, and while they waited their turn, they wrote out a recipe card of the ingredients in the jar.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, students had a marvelous time creating their jars, stopping at each station to add the ingredients you provided, then at the finishing station to choose fabric for the top of their jar and tying a bow and a card with the baking directions onto it. I look forward to January, and hearing stories about these Sand Art Cookies and baking these at home with their families. Thank you so very much for making this possible!
