This annual tradition soon included my partner teacher and his class. This year, I made Gifts in a Jar with the entire fifth grade, and it is truly one of my favorite activities, as well as theirs.\r\n\r\nWe arranged three, one hour sessions, as it takes about an hour for an entire class to make their jars. When students entered the classroom, I demonstrated the method of filling their jars, and while they waited their turn, they wrote out a recipe card of the ingredients in the jar.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, students had a marvelous time creating their jars, stopping at each station to add the ingredients you provided, then at the finishing station to choose fabric for the top of their jar and tying a bow and a card with the baking directions onto it. I look forward to January, and hearing stories about these Sand Art Cookies and baking these at home with their families. Thank you so very much for making this possible! The highlight of the day, however, was attending Potions Class with Professor Snape!\r\n\r\nOne of my former fifth graders, a retired colleague, and myself each ran a potions station. Students wrote predictions, experimented, then wrote observations. I loved that my students were completely engaged in their learning, as well as being introduced to the scientific method and chemical reactions!\r\n\r\nWhat a truly magical day it was! I then wrote a grant, using the DonorsChoose platform, and was fully funded for over $350 in supplies by The Allstate Foundation within a few days!\r\n\r\nOur supplies arrived quickly, and my students and I worked together to create care packages for those who adopt a dog or cat, including a \"Thank you for adopting me\" note. We are grateful to both DonorsChoose and The Allstate Foundation for making this wish possible, and we hope our small contribution will help their efforts in finding forever homes for the hopeful animals in their care.\r\n\r\nSeveral of my students and their families met me at the shelter this past week, and we delivered our care packages, as well as other supplies they needed, including towels and 120 pounds of cat litter!
