Many of our students have never read a magazine with multiple articles. These magazines were a great resource for my students to learn how to navigate the table of contents. Compare articles for similarities and differences. Create discussion topics where students shared their own experiences and preferences. \r\n\r\nMost recently. We read an article discussing the origins of hot cocoa and gingerbread cookies. Students shared how their families celebrate the winter season. The types of treats the like or if they have traditions specific to the holiday. Many students and myself included did not know the origin of gingerbread men. It was a great article that allowed students to learn more about each other outside of school. At the beginning of the school year our library was very empty, with only a few books that were given by the previous teacher or from my personal collection. Unfortunately, these books were either too hard for the students to read or not interesting to them. \r\n\r\nAfter receiving your generous donations my students have a large variety of books to choose from. They have written book reviews and shared discussions with their classmates.\r\n\r\nA group of 4th grade and 3rd grade students worked on a project collecting data from the national geographic kids magazines. The students read the magazine about a specific animal. And shared at least 3 facts about the animal with the group.
