Many things were quickly incorporated into my routines with students, such as the emotion coin drop, the calming kinetic sand box I made, and of course the beloved squishy stress toys and fidgets! The kids were stoked when they saw those, of course! We also did some fun art projects at the end of the year that they were very excited to take home with them, all thanks to you wonderful donors!\r\nMy next steps for this project includes incorporating the cushions into the materials I use for my small groups this year. I have some new curriculum that is well-suited for the students at this school, so I am eager for school to start! As I mentioned in why these materials would be useful, private space can be hard to come by with the different services being offered but limited spaces! We are lucky to have these services at our school, so we often find creative ways to keep our students comfortable while ensuring their privacy is protected and respected. The cushions are going to be vital in making this happen! The best part is applying our newly acquired skills while participating in a \"game-ified\" version of our normal practice activities. \r\n\r\nThrough active participation, students earn chips to use with our table top Plinco Board, which comes with a bonus \"mental math\" session as we add up our scores. The highest point earner gets to \"Spin the Big Wheel\" to earn a prize: it might be a little treat, a mystery prize, like a cool eraser, pencil, or a temporary tattoo. They might even win a ZONK! (like a two week old banana from my own lunchbox.) A few groans and much laughter ensues. \r\n\r\nOur time together is full of smiles and celebrations as spelling skills are put to the test with fun card games like \"Snap it Up,\" \"Scrabble Slam,\" and \"Play on Words.\"\r\n\r\nThe buzzers were a hilarious addition- although we learned it's a bit overwhelming when there are too many buzzers going off at once. \r\n\r\nMy own excitement for school has increased now that I have regular opportunities to live the life of my alter ego: The Game Show Host. \r\n\r\nMonday through Thursday is all business, though.
