I am a first year teacher with limited classroom resources, however, I have big plans for making my classroom a fun and engaging learning environment! My first grade students will benefit by having the opportunity to have seating that allows them to wiggle while they learn. Many students are kinesthetic learners, meaning that they cannot learn effectively by sitting still and listening. They will start to fidget, get distracted and bored, and ultimately cause disruption in the classroom. In an effort to meet the needs of those students, flexible seating is an excellent choice. Students typically retain more information when they are using hands-on materials, able to move, discuss and explore, and have the opportunity to still be children. First grade students should not be expected to sit in desks repetitively like high school students. By offering them flexible choices, they can flourish and have fun while learning!
