In the classroom, these calculators serve a very different purpose: they are learning tools that support reasoning, verification, and confidence-building. Students are using them to check their work, identify patterns, and focus on understanding why a mathematical process works rather than getting stuck on arithmetic. This has allowed lessons to move more efficiently and has helped students engage more deeply with concepts such as solving equations, analyzing functions, and interpreting results.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is having their own calculator readily available. No longer having to share or wait has increased participation and independence. Students are more willing to attempt challenging problems because they have a tool that supports their thinking. I frequently hear students say things like, \"Let me check my answer,\" or \"I see the pattern now,\" which shows a shift toward mathematical confidence and self-monitoring.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled to stay engaged have shown noticeable growth. Students who often shut down when faced with multi-step problems are now more willing to try, knowing they can verify their steps along the way. Others who work more quickly are able to explore extensions and make connections without being limited by access to materials. The calculators have helped level the playing field, allowing all students to participate fully.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these calculators have helped change how students view math. Instead of seeing it as something to fear or rush through, they are beginning to see it as something they can understand and succeed in. Your support has provided more than supplies—it has given my students confidence, access, and the tools they need to build skills that will carry them forward.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and helping unlock their math success.","fullyFundedDate":1760717971364,"projectUrl":"project/unlocking-math-success-one-calculator-a/9815229/","projectTitle":"Unlocking Math Success, One Calculator at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Karpinski","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7266848_orig.jpg?crop=2135,2135,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1591748038736","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7266848"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_91974","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2543,"numTeachers":110,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":43,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":49,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"23.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.5,"schoolId":91974,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Westminster High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Westminster High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/huntington-beach-union-hs-dist/westminster-high-school/91974"}
