The impact has already been incredible!\r\nMy students are so excited each time we read a picture book together. Even as pre-teens, they love being read to—and now they're even more eager to peek through our new collection on their own. Many students have already shared how much it means to see books that reflect their own lives and experiences. One student even guessed that the books highlight diversity, which led us into a wonderful discussion about what diversity really means. That conversation grew into a class discussion about inclusion and why it matters for everyone.\r\nThese books have also inspired my students to think about what's still missing from our library. One student pointed out that we didn't yet have a book about Chinese culture, which started a brand-new classroom wish list of books we'd love to add so that all children feel celebrated, seen, and heard. Watching students take ownership in shaping our library has been such a powerful moment of learning and community building.\r\nI look forward to using these books throughout the year as we highlight and celebrate different heritage months. This month, we are especially excited to honor Hispanic Heritage Month with some of the beautiful new titles we received. These stories are not only teaching us about culture and identity but also helping us build empathy and respect for one another.\r\nThank you for making this possible for my 6th graders. Your generosity has given them books that truly matter and sparked conversations that will stay with them far beyond our classroom walls.","fullyFundedDate":1755787437899,"projectUrl":"project/opening-minds-one-picture-book-at-a-tim/9458335/","projectTitle":"Opening Minds, One Picture Book at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Marme","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9516853_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752260565212","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9516853"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_65836","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":269,"numTeachers":15,"percentFrplEligible":41,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":50,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"17.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":97.6,"schoolId":65836,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hope Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hope Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/hope-elementary-school-district/hope-elementary-school/65836"}
