Because of your generosity, the impact of your donation reached far beyond just one classroom.\r\n\r\nThree different classes were able to read and experience the magic of Harry Potter together. More than 120 students held these books in their hands, turned the pages, discussed the characters, made predictions, and became completely invested in the story.\r\n\r\nBut the magic did not stop there!\r\n\r\nAfter reading, students participated in lessons focused on comparing and contrasting. They brought their books to a special movie day, where they watched the Harry Potter movie alongside their teachers and me, their instructional coach. They carefully compared what they had read with what they saw on the screen.\r\n\r\nAnd then something amazing happened.\r\n\r\nStudents were actually getting upset with the movie!\r\n\r\n\"Hey... that's not how it happened in the book!\"\r\n\r\n\"That's not what the book said!\"\r\n\r\nAs an educator, my heart was absolutely full.\r\n\r\nOf course, I loved seeing the joy on their faces. I loved hearing their excitement and listening to them passionately discuss the story. But what filled my heart the most was realizing what they were doing without even being prompted: **they were demonstrating comprehension.**\r\n\r\nThey knew the story.\r\n\r\nThey remembered details.\r\n\r\nThey recognized differences.\r\n\r\nThey were thinking critically about what they had read.\r\n\r\nGetting children to read can be difficult. Getting children to truly enjoy reading can sometimes feel even harder. But because of you, over 120 students were given an opportunity to experience the joy of getting lost in a book.\r\n\r\nYour donation did not simply provide Harry Potter books.\r\n\r\nYou created conversations.\r\n\r\nYou created excitement.\r\n\r\nYou created memories.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, you helped create readers.\r\n\r\nAnd helping a child become a lifelong reader is one of the greatest gifts anyone can ever give.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, students who may not have chosen to pick up a book became excited about reading. They wanted to know what happened next. They cared about the characters. They noticed the details. Every day, we are using these new resources during our literacy centers, math rotations, and creative art projects. One special moment that truly captured your impact was during our \"Build Your Perfect House\" project. They found such creative ways to use the Magna tiles and Lego set.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their eyes grew wide with wonder. There were joyful gasps, lots of whispered \"wow!\" moments, and more than a few happy wiggles in their seats. P.E. is sadly underfunded in the elementary grades, and can often be a time of boredom for the students. Thanks to your generosity we have equipment to last us the year for many different activities. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the different types of balls we received, they were so excited. Our first day we went out and played their favorite game, dodgeball. The students love dodgeball because they have a chance to throw something at their friends that will not hurt. The foam balls make it easy for everyone to take turns and not fear getting out. \r\n\r\nThe class also loves the soccer, volleyball, and basketballs. Volleyball has been the sport of choice lately, watching the students learn to volley has been a lot of fun. We will be beginning a basketball unit soon and that will hopefully lead to many of our sixth graders trying out for our school basketball team this spring. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness and generosity.
