The students were so curious when the booth first arrived! I set it up one day after school, so when they came in the next morning, they immediately noticed there was this new piece of equipment taking up space in the back corner of our classroom. Each period as students trickled in, they were like, \"Whoa... What's that Mrs. Y?\" They all wanted to go check it out and explore the booth! \r\n\r\nAs they explored, I explained to them that in the past, when I asked students to complete video or audio projects, students were hesitant to record in the classroom because they didn't have a private space to record. Oftentimes, students would go outside the classroom, or to the library, or just wait until they got home to record when needed. So I shared with them that the new recording booth would allow them a private, sound proof space in our classroom where they will be able to create video or audio content aligned with our English performance tasks. They were asking all kinds of questions after that like \"So, when I record, no one will be able to hear me?\" or \"Does it block out the sounds that are in the classroom when I'm recording?\" I was able to answer all their questions, and they were like, \"Okay, so when do we get to use it?\" \r\n\r\nSo, we were able to use it for our first big writing Performance Task last quarter. Students were asked to choose a social, political, or environmental issue that was concerning to them, write a script, and record a 1-2 minute video reel about it. They were asked to explain the issue and include a call-to-action as a means of prompting change or action. The presence of this booth not only sparked curiosity and excitement, but as students used it, they became more willing to let their ideas and voices be heard. \r\n\r\nI'd like to share with you one student video sample that has been produced so far. One of my Special Education students, who has had some difficulties in traditional school environments in the past, was one of the first students who was eager to use the booth. He wrote his video reel script about the fentanyl epidemic because he has witnessed drug overdoses firsthand. He recorded his video in the booth and then uploaded it to a program called Canva to add some elements to it. Here is a link where you can view his video: https://www.canva.com/design/DAG4jL3H1kk/xBaveIlJUS-f4Uzzyx5p-w/watch?utm_content=DAG4jL3H1kk&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=uniquelinks&utlId=h6a483d4016\r\n\r\nAs you can see from this student's video, we are just getting started with producing creative content and sharing our voices with the world. Thank you for helping me inspire and encourage my students to share their voices with the world.","fullyFundedDate":1755716120637,"projectUrl":"project/the-write-booth-amplifying-student-voic/9470553/","projectTitle":"The Write Booth: Amplifying Student Voice","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Yazarlou","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1039519_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1470979445071","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ashley-yazarlou"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40206","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":344,"numTeachers":18,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":68,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"11 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"19.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":40206,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Alessandro Continuation High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Alessandro Continuation High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/hemet-unified-school-district/alessandro-high-school/40206"}
