As orange is our primary school color, these additions have not only provided essential relief but have also been a fantastic boost to our team's spirit and visibility! Your donation immediately impacted our athletes on the sidelines, offering a much-needed break from the sun during practices and games. We were incredibly proud to take these shades with us on our journey to the CIF San Diego Section Playoffs as a first-year team, providing our athletes with a crucial spot to recover between drives. Furthermore, the shades served as the central point for our concessions stand—a huge success that used your resource to raise over $1,000 to support our program's future needs.\r\n\r\nThe reaction from our students when they first saw the shades was pure excitement; the vivid orange immediately made them feel like a professional, unified team, enhancing their sense of pride in Valhalla. The shades provided the only cool, shaded spot for our athletes, especially during the intense heat of the CIF playoff tournament—a moment they won't soon forget. Looking ahead, your contribution has opened the door for our next step: we are now planning to use the funds raised through the shaded concession stand to purchase specialized training equipment and enter tournaments in the spring for returning athletes. This will ensure our team can continue to develop their skills and build a foundation for an even more successful second season. Thank you again for giving our students a tangible reminder of what community support can achieve; we look forward to sharing our progress with you!","fullyFundedDate":1760638575224,"projectUrl":"project/shade-for-our-football-games/9684587/","projectTitle":"Shade for Our Football Games!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sellers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2262829_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1456938799023","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2262829"},{"teacherId":2262829,"projectId":9446943,"letterContent":"On behalf of the students in my English Language Learner (ELL) classes, I want to extend my deepest thanks for your recent contribution of school supplies. While items like paper and pencils may seem basic, for our students, who come from low-income backgrounds and are working hard to acquire a new language, these supplies are truly foundational tools for empowerment and equity.\r\n\r\nYour donations eliminate a significant barrier to learning. When a child doesn't have a pencil, or cannot afford the paper necessary to complete an assignment, they often start the day feeling anxiety, embarrassment, and unpreparedness. By providing every student with their own paper and pencils, you instantly level the playing field, allowing them to focus entirely on the challenging work of language acquisition and academic content, rather than on where their next supply will come from.\r\n\r\nThe impact of the specific items you supplied is profound for language learners:\r\n\r\nPencil Dispenser and Cases: These solve administrative hurdles and promote responsibility. The pencil dispenser ensures continuous access to sharpened tools, minimizing classroom disruption and maximizing instructional time. Individual pencil cases foster a sense of ownership, organization, and pride in their materials.\r\n\r\nColored Pencils and Markers: In an ELL setting, visual learning is paramount. These materials are not just for art; they are crucial for comprehension. Students use them to:\r\n\r\nAnnotate texts by color-coding grammar (e.g., green for verbs, blue for nouns).\r\n\r\nCreate visual vocabulary webs to map new words and connections.\r\n\r\nDevelop graphic organizers to process complex ideas without needing perfect English.\r\n\r\nIllustrate narratives to demonstrate story comprehension when writing skills are still developing.\r\n\r\nIn essence, your donation has transformed our classrooms into spaces where every student feels valued, prepared, and excited to participate. You haven't just provided supplies; you've given our students the confidence to express themselves and the tools necessary to succeed in mastering the English language.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in their future.","fullyFundedDate":1758836315617,"projectUrl":"project/start-the-school-year-off-right/9446943/","projectTitle":"Start the School Year Off Right!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sellers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2262829_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1456938799023","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2262829"},{"teacherId":2262829,"projectId":9354150,"letterContent":"When students see themselves, their cultures, and their life experiences reflected in the books they read, they become more engaged and motivated to read. This is a concept known as \"mirrors\"—books that reflect a student's own life and identity. For students from underrepresented backgrounds, seeing their stories validated in literature sends a powerful message that their experiences matter and are worthy of being told. This can lead to a stronger sense of self-worth and a more positive connection to school. Conversely, when students feel invisible or misrepresented, it can cause them to become disinterested in reading and feel excluded from the academic environment.\r\n\r\nInclusive books also act as \"windows,\" offering students a glimpse into worlds and experiences that are different from their own. Reading about characters with different backgrounds—whether related to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, or sexual identity—can help students develop a broader perspective and cultivate empathy and tolerance. This exposure challenges stereotypes and biases, helping to break down barriers and create a more accepting and understanding classroom community. In today's diverse world, this skill is crucial for preparing students to be informed and engaged citizens who can work collaboratively with people from all walks of life.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1747790593126,"projectUrl":"project/diverse-materials-for-english-language-l/9354150/","projectTitle":"Diverse Materials for English Language Learner Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sellers","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2262829_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1456938799023","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2262829"},{"teacherId":6574333,"projectId":8720828,"letterContent":"I wanted to describe the impact your generosity has had on my classroom. I have now had over 150 kids explore my library in order to check out books for their independent reading assignments. Students from other teachers have also come to my classroom looking for a good book.\r\n\r\nStudents have been given various assignments and opportunities to interact with their independent reading books such as giving speeches about their books and creating infographics that gave star reviews on their novels. My students also participated in \"Speed Dating With a Book\" on Valentine's Day this year. That event can be seen in the photos I posted. The students were thoroughly excited to see all of the various genres and explore the different titles that I have.\r\n\r\nThese books have given students a chance to see themselves in stories and also step into worlds far beyond their own. One of my more reluctant readers recently told me, \"I didn't think I liked reading, but I couldn't put this one down.\" (Weirdly, this book was called \"Killing Mr. Griffin\" and it is a book about a teacher...hmmm....) Comments like that remind me why it matters so much to have a wide range of engaging, high-interest books available. Your donation has made independent reading not just a requirement, but something students look forward to and that excitement is something I could not have created without your support.
