The hydroponic kits, in particular, have sparked so much curiosity and discovery. Students have been fascinated observing how much water plants actually take up and seeing the photosynthesis equation come alive in real time—understanding that plants truly build their mass from water and carbon dioxide, and that we, in turn, rely on them for food. One of the most special moments was when students were able to harvest lettuce they had grown themselves and take it home to share with their families during Christmas and Hanukkah dinners. Experiences like that create lasting connections between science, sustainability, and everyday life.\r\n\r\nWe appreciate your patience with the delayed start, as we faced some delivery challenges along with an unusually cold and rainy winter that limited early planting. Now that spring has arrived, our garden is thriving. We were able to secure a water barrel and successfully set up our drip irrigation system, which has already improved how we care for our plants. Moving forward, students will continue working on removing invasive grasses and developing long-term integrated pest management strategies. We are also investigating ways to improve our soil's water and nutrient retention. With the help of heating pads, our seed germination rates have already improved significantly, and we are excited to keep building on this momentum. This is a huge draw for this program, where access to computers are the baseline for learning, from our experienced coders to our rookie members.\r\n\r\nFor many of our students, this is their first opportunity to explore computer science and engineering. Through the generosity of DonorsChoose, we had previously received an airbrush kit for students to paint their 3D printer creations, but we didn't quite have the set up for it. Our new airbrushing booth is perfect! It helps contain the mess, teaches students how to work in a professional space, and it helps complete part of our shop.\r\n\r\nThe filament dryer has also been an incredible resource! We had previously tried to keep our 3D printer filaments dry using silica beads, but that proved to be much more difficult and cumbersome and unreliable than we thought. The dryer is perfect! It has the perfect spot for it next to our 3D printer and it has already done its job of saving some of our filaments that were prone to breaking. \r\n\r\nThank you again for making these upgrades to our classroom.
