One of the things that we do for our varsity players is we get them a bag for their entire uniform that they then use for their shoe bag during season. We were able to make a design on the outside of the bag to personalize it for each girl. \r\n\r\n The other exciting thing has been printing off a number on a uniform and not having to outsource to get one single number printed on a jersey. Through these texts, students practice close reading, critical thinking, annotation, discussion, and analytical writing. Many of the books also expose students to diverse perspectives and real-world themes, helping them build empathy and make meaningful connections between literature and their own lives.\r\n\r\nIn AP English Language and Honors English, students learn how authors use rhetorical strategies, characterization, symbolism, and structure to communicate deeper ideas. The texts also encourage students to ask thoughtful questions, engage in respectful discussion, and support their ideas with evidence — skills that extend far beyond the English classroom.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the grant allowed me to create a calmer and more supportive testing environment by providing candy for students during exams. Research shows that sucking on hard candy can help reduce stress and anxiety, and students consistently reported feeling more relaxed and focused during assessments.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is active, collaborative, and student-centered. Students are not simply reading quietly and answering questions — they are annotating, discussing, questioning, debating, and making connections to the world around them. On any given day, you might see students participating in small-group discussions, writing reflections in the margins of their books, analyzing passages together, or engaging in whole-class conversations about important themes and ideas.\r\n\r\nI also strive to make reading feel accessible and enjoyable, even for reluctant readers. The classroom environment is intentionally welcoming and low-stress, which is one reason the \"sweet side\" of the grant had such a positive impact. Small comforts, like candy during exams or reading activities, help students associate literacy and learning with positive experiences rather than anxiety.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, reading in our classroom is about helping students discover that books are not just assignments — they are opportunities to better understand themselves, other people, and the world around them.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this grant has been watching students who do not typically see themselves as \"readers\" become genuinely engaged with the new books. Several students who were previously hesitant to participate in discussions have become more confident because they connected personally with the themes and characters in the texts.\r\n\r\nMy English learners and reluctant readers especially benefited from having engaging, high-interest books that felt relevant to their experiences. Some students have even continued conversations about the books long after class ended, recommending titles to friends or asking to borrow additional books to read independently.\r\n\r\nI have also noticed that students experiencing high levels of academic stress appreciated the supportive atmosphere created through the grant. Something as simple as offering candy during assessments communicated that their well-being matters. The side table is allowing my classroom entry to flow better when students first arrive. Now that our phone home collection box is more out of the way on the side table, there's more space to put out papers for the day. It makes the student traffic flow faster so we can start instruction faster. The tone of the class is set at the very beginning of each period so this flow is very important. The Expos have been vital for our vertical whiteboard engagements and discoveries and the students have been enjoying that type of learning a lot lately. They also allow us to do individual whiteboard reviews before quizzes. The card decks have helped with our vertical whiteboards as well. Students are given a random card from a deck to form random groups of 3 to then work on problems on the whiteboard together. This helps them discover and practice content in a more collaborative and fairer environment. In addition, the new compasses have made it so much easier for my students to do constructions in Geometry! They are able to construct a figure way faster than ever before, which allows us to cover more material with less intervention due to trickier compasses. The old compasses we had were hard to open and close and set up in general. The tape has been helpful for out notebook arrangements as we tape in all of our notes to keep them organized. Students in my class utilize their notes as a reference for classwork and homework. The highlighters have been a big hit as well as students have borrowed them to take notes and better understand the content. They make learning more fun and easier! Thank you so much for the support and supplies! You are truly making my classroom better and improving student learning! The hand sanitizer has come in handy for both teachers and students. We use it before we eat food to try to mitigate germs spreading and sicknesses spreading. Right now there are tons of flu strains spreading around campus so students and teachers alike have been utilizing hand sanitizer in an attempt to not catch or spread these illnesses. Our bathrooms for the students are downstairs so sending them to just wash their hands can take a bit of time.
