Our first project with pastels was a snowman perspective drawing. Students created their snowmen and were able to choose their perspective/viewpoint. The pastels were perfect for blending colors, adding snowy texture, and creating shadows that made the snowmen look big and round. It was so fun to see how each student's snowman turned out a little different with their own hats, scarves, and falling snow.\r\n\r\nMy students loved experimenting with smudging and layering colors to make their snow look soft, and their snowmen look more realistic. After practicing these techniques with our snowman art, we used the pastels again to create our Valentine's Day \"Analog Downsizing Heart Art\", where students focused on color blending and shading to make their hearts really pop.\r\n\r\nWe will definitely keep using these pastels as we continue exploring art in our classroom. They have opened the door for students to be more creative and confident when trying new techniques.
