The sketchbooks, coloring materials, mindfulness activities, therapeutic games, and grounding tools became part of my individual counseling sessions with students. Some students used art to express what they were feeling, while others connected through a game, a mindfulness activity, or simply having something calming to hold while we talked.\r\n\r\nThese materials helped make our time together feel less clinical and more natural, especially for students who were hesitant to open up at first. I watched students become more comfortable expressing themselves, identifying emotions, practicing coping skills, and finding ways to calm their bodies during stressful moments. Those conversations and activities often helped them leave our sessions feeling more regulated and better able to return to class and continue their day.\r\n\r\nI am deeply grateful that your generosity allowed me to offer our students more than just a conversation during some very difficult seasons of their lives. For many of our younger students, having something in their hands made it easier to slow down, regulate big emotions, and begin talking about what they were experiencing. Because of this project, I have been able to create personalized feelings journals, coping activities, visual supports, and other resources that meet students where they are emotionally and developmentally. These materials have allowed me to respond more intentionally during individual meetings and give students tools they can continue using after our time together.\r\n\r\nThe impact has gone far beyond having new materials available. All of the students I support are experiencing homelessness, foster care, loss, and major disruptions in their sense of safety and stability. Some have lost their homes, important relationships, or the routines they once depended on. Having resources created specifically for their needs has helped students open up, put difficult feelings into words, practice coping strategies, and regain a sense of calm. In those moments, I have seen students move from feeling overwhelmed or shut down to feeling more connected, regulated, and ready to return to class.\r\n\r\nIt means so much to know that people in our community care deeply about students who are going through some of the most difficult circumstances a child can face. Your generosity has helped me provide consistent support as I move from campus to campus, while also reminding our students that they are seen, valued, and not alone. Providing these sensory tools in a safe, calming environment can help students learn to manage these feelings as they meet with supportive staff on campus. Many of my students are non-speaking autistic preschoolers and kindergarteners who rely on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to express their needs, thoughts, ideas, and feelings. The iPads equipped with AAC apps are giving them consistent access to communication throughout the school day. Instead of adults guessing what they need, my students can now independently say \"help,\" \"all done,\" \"my turn,\" or share their thoughts during circle time. That independence builds confidence and reduces frustration.\r\n\r\nOur new circle time carpet has also transformed our classroom. For many autistic learners, predictability and physical space matter deeply. The carpet provides clearly defined spots for each student, creating structure, visual boundaries, and a sense of safety. It has quickly become our gathering place for learning, connection, and regulation. Students who once struggled to remain in group activities are now able to sit, engage, and participate for longer periods of time because the environment feels calm and intentional.\r\n\r\nTogether, these tools are doing more than supporting academics. They are building communication, community, and belonging in a classroom where nearly all students come from low-income households. Your generosity has given my students access to their voices and a space where those voices are honored.
