Having pencils readily accessible at all times has helped students stay prepared and focused during lessons without worrying about not having supplies. They especially loved the variety of colors and the fact that sharpeners were easily available throughout the classroom. We also use highlighters regularly for reading, writing, and organizational tasks, and the students were excited to use the thin highlighters during assignments and group activities. These simple tools have helped increase student engagement, participation, and independence throughout the school day.\r\n\r\nIt means so much to our classroom to have support from a company like Panda. Donations like these truly make a difference, especially for classrooms and schools where students may not always have access to the materials they need. Being able to provide all necessary supplies in the classroom gives students one less thing to worry about and allows them to focus more on learning. My students also love hearing about donors and knowing there are people outside of our school community who care about their success and want to support them.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were incredibly excited. They loved helping unbox the supplies, organizing them, and passing them out to classmates. Even being able to help carry the boxes into the classroom made them feel involved and important. Moving forward, we will continue focusing on building student motivation and encouraging students to explore different career paths and future goals. Your support has made it possible for my students to receive high-interest counting objects to spark their interest in numbers and counting.\r\nSince these materials arrived, I have already witnessed a noticeable impact in our classroom. Students are engaging with the resources enthusiastically, collaborating more effectively, and demonstrating a renewed excitement for learning. These are not just classroom tools — they are opportunities that will help my students grow academically and personally. Our students are able to separate into a small group arrangement to better focus on their unique math needs.\r\nFor students with autism, mastering a new skill like counting or cardinality often requires significantly more repetitions and varied exposures than it does for their neurotypical peers. This isn't due to a lack of ability, but rather a different way of processing information. Providing these students with high-interest, tactile materials allows us to facilitate distributed practice, where they can engage with the same concept dozens of times in a way that feels like play rather than a repetitive chore. These extra opportunities are the bridge between simply recognizing a number and truly understanding its value.\r\nFurthermore, these resources are essential for helping our students generalize their knowledge. It is common for autistic learners to master a task in one specific setting but struggle to apply it elsewhere. Having a variety of engaging tools allows us to practice these math concepts across different environments and scenarios, ensuring that the skill becomes a permanent, functional part of their academic toolkit. By funding these materials, you have provided the literal building blocks my students need to achieve true mastery and independence in their learning.\r\nBeyond academic concepts, these materials are instrumental in helping our students develop basic functional skills that are essential for daily independence. For many of our learners, the act of counting is closely tied to life skills such as following a schedule, managing personal items, or participating in community activities. By working with these high-interest objects, students are not only learning math—they are practicing fine motor coordination, following multi-step directions, and building the stamina required for task completion. Strengthening these foundational habits ensures that our students are gaining the practical competence they need to navigate the world with greater confidence and autonomy.","fullyFundedDate":1769177352778,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-counting-and-cardinality/9941080/","projectTitle":"Hands-on Counting and Cardinality","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Westburg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9973254_orig.png?crop=372,372,x0,y4&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769628348462","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9973254"},{"teacherId":4459116,"projectId":9688283,"letterContent":"Our items have a had a great impact on our student learning, especially for our students with processing needs, ADHD, and autism. In a Special Day Class serving students with moderate-to-severe support needs, access to engaging, high-quality materials is essential for building communication, independence, and academic skills.\r\nWe immediately began incorporating the materials into our daily structured rotations, which include Discrete Trial (DT), Pivotal Response Training (PRT), Handwriting Without Tears (HWT), and Practical Communication Instruction (PCI). These rotations allow us to meet each student at their level while targeting communication, behavior, and academics.\r\nOne of the most meaningful moments happened during a communication lesson using the bingo daubers. Students were prompted to identify colors and request them using verbal language or AAC devices. One student, who typically requires significant prompting, independently said, \"I want blue.\" This was a huge breakthrough and a moment we celebrated as a class. The materials created a natural opportunity for communication in a way that felt fun and motivating.\r\nThe anti-roll triangular crayons also made a noticeable difference during our handwriting station. Students who often struggle with fine motor tasks were able to grip the crayons more effectively and complete tracing activities with less frustration. One student who usually avoids writing tasks completed an entire activity and proudly said, \"I did it.\" Moments like these build confidence and a willingness to try.\r\nOur students' reactions to the materials were immediate and genuine. Many showed excitement through smiles, clapping, and increased engagement. Even students who are typically hesitant were drawn in by the bright colors and hands-on nature of the supplies. The materials themselves became motivating, helping students stay engaged longer and reducing challenging behaviors.\r\nThe cardstock has allowed us to create more durable visual supports, which are essential in our classroom. Visual schedules, token boards, and communication strips help students understand expectations, transition between activities, and communicate their needs. Having materials that last longer means more consistency for our students, which is key to their success.\r\nLooking ahead, we are continuing to build on these skills by expanding communication and independence. Students are working on using longer phrases such as \"I need help\" and \"I feel happy,\" while also practicing academic skills like counting, sorting, and identifying letters and words using these materials.\r\nThese resources are not just supplies—they are tools that help my students access learning, express themselves, and feel successful. Your support has created meaningful opportunities for growth, connection, and confidence in our classroom.\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for helping us create a space where every child can learn, communicate, and thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1763474726844,"projectUrl":"project/durable-tools-for-endless-learning/9852391/","projectTitle":"Durable Tools for Endless Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ashley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8678084_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748283640980","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8678084"},{"teacherId":8277155,"projectId":9877606,"letterContent":"Our new snack resources have made a meaningful difference in our classroom. Many of my students arrive late to school and miss breakfast because the cafeteria has already closed. As special education students, hunger can greatly impact their ability to focus, regulate emotions, and participate successfully in learning activities. Having a variety of snacks available, such as cereal bars and granola bars, has helped ensure students have access to something to eat throughout the day when needed. One specific moment that stood out was when a student began acting out during instructional time. After checking in with him, he shared that he was hungry. He was able to choose a cereal bar from our snack bin, calm down, remain in class, and successfully complete his work. Small supports like this have had a big impact on student behavior, focus, and overall classroom success. When my students first saw the snacks and materials, they were extremely excited and genuinely surprised that the items were specifically for them. Many repeatedly asked if they could really have them, and they felt cared for and supported knowing their needs were being recognized. Moving forward, we will continue using and maintaining our classroom snack bin to proactively support students before behaviors escalate or emotional frustration occurs. Providing students with access to basic needs helps create a calmer, more positive learning environment where they can focus on academics, self-regulation, and success in the classroom.
