These tools allow students to actively model their ideas, revise their thinking, and make their reasoning visible in ways that were previously difficult to sustain consistently.\r\n\r\nOne of the most impactful moments came during a unit where students were developing models to explain a scientific phenomenon. Instead of working passively or individually, students used the whiteboards and markers to collaboratively build, test, and revise their models in real time. Groups presented their thinking, received feedback from peers, and then immediately updated their models. This created a classroom environment where iteration and sense-making became the norm rather than the exception.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, there was a noticeable shift in energy and participation. They were eager to use the whiteboards and markers, and many students who are typically more reserved became more willing to share their thinking. The ability to quickly write, erase, and revise lowered the risk of being \"wrong\" and encouraged more students to engage.\r\n\r\nThese materials are now a consistent part of our classroom routines. Students use them daily to construct explanations, model systems, and organize evidence. The posters help anchor key ideas and provide structure, allowing students to reference and build on their learning over time.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue to use these tools as they refine their models and explanations across units. As we progress, they will take on more independence in designing and communicating their ideas, using these materials to support deeper reasoning, clearer communication, and stronger collaboration.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting a classroom where students actively think, revise, and engage in science as a process.","fullyFundedDate":1755780126945,"projectUrl":"project/showing-their-thinking-with-great-suppli/9608642/","projectTitle":"Showing Their Thinking With Great Supplies!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hold","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2471914_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722446256909","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-hold"},{"teacherId":10177936,"projectId":9597406,"letterContent":"The students and clients that I work with have been benefitting greatly from your donations! They used the sharpies and expo pens to expound on their ideas, and they used all the post it poster paper to show models and work through solutions to wide-ranging problems with contact forces and electromagnetism. Without those key supplies, it would have been much more difficult and challenging to show the students all they needed to learn. \r\n\r\nThe smaller items I asked for also made a difference—the students used the cubby for phones and personal items so that they could stay less distracted, and the golf pencils made it so students who forgot supplies could still succeed. Most importantly, the printer and printer supplies meant I could run the class, on time, without having to rely on a very unreliable school printer. \r\n\r\nThanks to you, I was able to start the year off strong, and my students gained a 4% average increase over last year. It was an incredible year—in part thanks to your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1723680412193,"projectUrl":"project/start-the-year-off-right-in-science/8541987/","projectTitle":"Start the Year Off Right in Science!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hold","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2471914_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722446256909","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-hold"},{"teacherId":2467733,"projectId":5410243,"letterContent":"These books were so helpful to be able to better reflect the population of our school. When students are able to see themselves reflected in what they read, they feel more a part of their classroom and school community. For students reading about groups to which they do not belong, they are able to empathize better and to better understand the experiences of other groups. \r\n\r\nLiterature is an equalizer- it gives us the ability to peek into someone else's life for a time, and when students are able to do this with books in their classroom, it extends their learning beyond what is normally possible to teach.
