In my classroom I have a total of 120 students I see throughout the day. While my students speak English, most of them are faced with challenges as far as reading abilities and comprehension. Writing and reading is often a challenge for these students and I use basic reading and comprehension lessons on a daily basis. Most of the students do not read on their own because they lack the skills needed or they see reading as a negative activity due to the challenge it presents. The school has approximately 90% of the population who would receive free or reduced lunch, if we had not earned a grant allowing all students to have free lunch. There are over 700 students enrolled on campus and we are a Title 1 school.
