Instead of having to take out and put away letters each day, we can keep the letters and numbers displayed so students can see and interact with them throughout the week. One of my favorite moments is watching students practice building their names, identifying letters, and making the sounds that go with them. They are excited to have a hands-on way to practice these important early literacy skills.\r\n\r\n My students were very excited and curious when they first saw the new materials! They immediately wanted to touch the letters, find the letters in their names, and begin spelling. They love being able to physically move and work with the letters, and it has made our phonics center feel like a fun and exciting place to learn. Seeing their excitement and willingness to practice has been so rewarding.\r\n\r\n Our next steps are to continue building a strong foundation in phonics. We are working on recognizing letters, learning the sounds they make, and spelling our names. As students become more confident, we will begin putting sounds together to read and spell simple CVC words. We will also use the board to practice recognizing and identifying numbers. My goal is for students to become confident with letters, sounds, and early reading skills while having fun and feeling successful as learners. They absolutely loved it! The hands-on tools made sight word practice engaging, interactive, and meaningful. I watched so many lightbulb moments, it truly is one of the most magical parts of kindergarten.\r\n\r\nI also wanted to share something special with you. I recently had one of my formal evaluation observations with my principal, and I chose to do the Orton-Gillingham \"red words\" lesson. The lesson went beautifully! My students were actively engaged, and it was a wonderful showcase of how impactful these resources are for young readers. Students actively explore number sense, place value, shapes, and time using interactive materials like number stomping mats, sand trays for word problems, magnetic tiles, and Montessori-based tools. These durable, high-quality resources are helping students collaborate, build confidence, and deepen their understanding of math concepts, allowing them to meet and even exceed kindergarten standards while preparing for first- and second-grade learning.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, students were thrilled and immediately curious. They couldn't wait to touch, explore, and ask questions about how everything worked. Many students who are usually hesitant during math lessons showed excitement and confidence right away, especially when they realized they could learn by moving, building, and working together.\r\n\r\nWe are using the new materials daily during math centers and partner work. One of our favorite activities has been number stomping to practice counting by tens, followed by writing word problems in sand trays and solving them together. Students then use broom and dustpan sets to clean up, turning responsibility into part of the learning process. The golden bead bars, spindle boxes, and teen and ten boards have also become student favorites for building number sense and understanding place value in a concrete, visual way.\r\n\r\nStudents will continue using these materials to deepen their understanding of teen numbers, telling time, and basic problem-solving. We will expand our work with magnetic tiles to include designing and measuring simple structures, and students will use the reusable dry-erase pockets to create and solve their own math games.
