The items you provided have had an extraordinary impact on the students I work with, touching nearly every aspect of their communication, regulation, and daily success at school.\r\n\r\nMany of our students gravitate toward a small number of specific interests, so finding tools that truly engage them can be challenging. The rain sticks you donated have been nothing short of remarkable. They immediately captured the attention and engagement of all of our students. I often used them to invite students into speech sessions, offering a moment with the rain stick at the beginning was enough motivation to bring many students to the table. Once there, they eagerly practiced communication skills to request a turn, and the calming sound helped set a regulated and focused tone for learning.\r\n\r\nThe variety of fidgets has also been incredibly valuable. Because they come in different shapes, colors, and textures, they not only provide soothing and motivating sensory input, but they also open the door to countless communication opportunities. Students have been able to explore, request, describe, and comment while engaging with these fun and calming tools.\r\n\r\nThe Koala breathing pal has become another favorite in our sessions. From the very first introduction, students noticeably quieted and focused when they saw the koala's gentle, changing lights. These visual cues have been essential in helping students learn how to practice deep breathing, which is an important calming strategy that many are beginning to generalize beyond speech sessions.\r\n\r\nYour donation of the weighted heart and bat has also made a significant difference. These items have been especially effective in redirecting and soothing students who engage in self-injurious behaviors, offering both comfort and protection during challenging moments.\r\n\r\nFinally, the social skills books have already been read and reread many times. We use them in a variety of ways; during lessons, in small groups, and even in quick reminders throughout the day. Students often reference the stories and characters, and the books have become a powerful tool for reinforcing positive behavior and social understanding.\r\n\r\nTruly, every single item you donated has made a meaningful and lasting impact on our students. You have given them tools that help them communicate, feel safe, regulate their emotions, and engage more fully in their learning. We are deeply grateful for your kindness and for believing in the importance of supporting all learners.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity and for making such a positive difference in our school community.","fullyFundedDate":1759165187624,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-calming-space-to-support-emot/9564027/","projectTitle":"Creating a Calming Space to Support Emotional/Sensory Regulation","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sara","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10164036"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_99734","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":26,"numTeachers":9,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":26,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":19,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"2.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":80.0,"schoolId":99734,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about H Glen Richardson Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"H Glen Richardson Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/fairfield-suisun-unified-school-district/sigma-program-at-h-glenn-richardson/99734"}
