I teach 140 amazing seventh-grade students and with your help, I am able to get them off their screens and on their feet. \r\n Our inspiration for this lab was our unit on phase change and chemical reactions. I looked up how to make Oobleck because it is such an interesting substance, displaying properties of both a solid and a liquid. My kiddos were familiar with Oobleck, so I wanted to take it one step further, so I posed a challenge to my class. I gave them three recipes for Oobleck, Slime and Goop and had them test the properties of each of the substances. After stretching, rolling, bouncing and pancaking, my students collected data and told me which substance performed the best. They then were slated with the task of making their own substance to be the G.O.A.T. at all of the tests. We took five days to run this lab and it was awesome. \r\n My students had a great time figuring out why the ingredients for their substances were behaving the way they did. Also, how when you combine different substances together and have a chemical reaction, the atoms rearrange and form new substances with new properties. Thank you for donating to my students and giving them such an awesome experience.","fullyFundedDate":1735533953691,"projectUrl":"project/oobleck-slime-or-goop-which-is-the-goa/9002803/","projectTitle":"Oobleck, Slime or Goop, which is the GOAT?","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Masaki","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9817636"},{"teacherId":8216775,"projectId":8706599,"letterContent":"My students are beyond grateful for your donations to support our Builders Club. I have ran the \"elephant toothpaste\" experiment several times in the past always hoping for a big reaction. I have always used an affordable biological catalyst, yeast, and 3% hydrogen peroxide. It's fun but underwhelming. \r\nThis year because of your help and the materials you provided for my class, I was able to present both a lab and class demonstration they will never forget. I was able to allow all of my students to run their own reactions using both 3 and 12% hydrogen peroxide, which was awesome. \r\nBut on top of that you also provided my class with 30% hydrogen peroxide and potassium iodide, a chemical catalyst, which I would have never been able to provide. Each of my students were able to observe first hand how catalysts work and examples of both an enzyme and a chemical catalyst. After the experiment they were able to see the steam being given off and know that an exothermic reaction has taken place. I can spend hours in class doing vocabulary, showing videos and explaining how amazing a chemical reactions is. However nothing is more effective then providing a hands-on, up close and personal encounter with science!","fullyFundedDate":1733246611999,"projectUrl":"project/elephant-toothpaste/8905972/","projectTitle":"Elephant Toothpaste","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Masaki","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9817636"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78415","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":409,"numTeachers":18,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":48,"percentIndigenous":6,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.1,"schoolId":78415,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Winship Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Winship Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/eureka-city-unified-school-district/winship-school/78415"}
