We were able to provide snacks to all of the students who were not able to bring snacks for themselves from home. We were also able to use these snacks any time student just needed a snack to help them make it to lunch time or to the end of the day. \r\n\r\nThe students were so happy and excited to see the variety of snacks we were able to offer daily. Everyday they would happily sit in their table spots and raise their hands for their morning snack. Many students asked where they came from or who brought so many snacks for them. We noticed a considerable difference in student behavior decreasing with the ability of students to have access to snack whenever they were hungry.\r\n\r\nWe are so appreciative of everyone who donated to this project to help lighten the load for teachers and for parents. For our Spanish-speaking students, these books provide a crucial way to engage with their native language while also supporting their social-emotional development. When children are able to see stories, characters, and concepts presented in Spanish, it fosters a sense of pride in their cultural identity and helps them feel more at home in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThese books not only promote language development but also support our youngest learners in building stronger connections with their peers and teachers. Spanish-speaking children feel more confident participating in activities, asking questions, and sharing ideas when they have access to materials that reflect their language and culture. This increased comfort and sense of belonging lead to more active engagement in group discussions, classroom activities, and cooperative play—helping them thrive both academically and socially.\r\n\r\nFor teachers, the availability of Spanish-language books has been a valuable opportunity to expand their own Spanish vocabulary and deepen their understanding of how to communicate more effectively with Spanish-speaking children and their families. Teachers are able to integrate Spanish words and phrases into daily routines and interactions, enriching the classroom experience for all students. This also strengthens the partnership between home and school, as Spanish-speaking families see their children's linguistic and cultural needs being embraced and supported by the teaching staff.\r\n\r\nUltimately, Spanish-language books have proven to be an essential tool in creating a classroom where all children, regardless of their language background, feel valued, heard, and connected to their learning community. Through these books, preschoolers gain confidence, teachers build stronger language skills, and families feel more engaged and represented in the educational process.","fullyFundedDate":1730951501060,"projectUrl":"project/the-bilingual-child/8908706/","projectTitle":"The Bilingual Child!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Leclair","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8304278_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753195853951","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8304278"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78391","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":305,"numTeachers":13,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":34,"percentIndigenous":4,"percentLatinx":30,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"23.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":72.2,"schoolId":78391,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lafayette Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lafayette Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/eureka-city-unified-school-district/lafayette-elementary-school/78391"}
