They also were able to go online and see what accompanying material is available and the first thing that popped up was a video of a bat on a treadmill, which of course they found fascinating. The students said the online portal was great with lots of videos and trivia games about the magazine's content where they can compete against their classmates for points. \r\n\r\nThe students seemed eager to have more time exploring the magazines and digital content and shared their fond memories of reading the Scholastic magazine in their elementary years. When I pulled on the handle the gasps, oohs, & ahhs that came out of the students were incredible to hear. One students said that they've never seen such a big map before, most had never seen such a map except a museums. Since then I've pulled down the map at least every three days. I pulled out the map and the students found Mt. Everest on the map when we discussed elevation in math. I've pulled the map down to show that parts of Europe had similar climates to the United States because they are the same distance from the equator in science when discussing the differences among Celsius and Fahrenheit. Today I provided my students with blank maps of the US and had them color in the man in the middle of the map, put a star where our school is located in California, and marked the location of many important parts of the US. Having these maps in my room is making a huge difference in my day to day teaching. It was like our birthday and Christmas all rolled up in one. The kids (and my staff) were so, so very excited!!! We immediately opened the two very large lakeshore boxes and started going through, looking at each new puzzle. One of the puzzles that the kids really loved looking and playing with was the emotions puzzle. They took each piece of and immediately recognized happy and sad. They were unsure what \"angry\" meant, but a few showed me with their expressions. Have you ever seen a cute little, normally super happy girl give you a very \"angry\" look? I told her she looked so angry that it scared me, which immediately made her laugh. But of course she loved my reaction, so she continued to show me the angry puzzle piece and her angry face. The other puzzles the kids played with today included the alphabet puzzles. One of my little boys loved holding the umbrella pretending to cover his head while singing a U song. I wasn't familiar with the song and asked him to sing it again which he did. As a teacher this makes my heart so happy! The engagement, attention to task, socialization, understanding emotions, and language development were all skills that were practiced by your generous donation to our big puzzle project. I was overwhelmed when my project was first completed in less that 24 hours! It is overwhelming to me that there are so many generous people and companies that support my classroom whether they know me or my students directly, or are just supporting education. As I received each package, for the sake of sounding cheesy, my heart did a little dance. \r\nNow I want to tell you how my kids reacted by giving you one example of how these gifts are introduced. The magnetic ball ramps I knew would be a hit with a couple of students who are OBSESSED with balls and things that roll! I first showed them the two boxes. A couple of students that understood that we were about to do something fun came over. My assistants brought the rest of the class over to where I was. I explained we were going to open a present together. As I open the box, I could see some engagement and excitement in a few more students. When I opened the box I realized that each piece was individually wrapped! While this might be frustrating for some, this is yet another way to engage and creates a teachable moment. My little ones struggle with fine motor skills. I showed them and modeled how to\r\nTake the pieces out of the bag and how the magnets keeps it from falling on the magnetic cabinet. Oh they were so excited and eager to help. While some struggles my assistants helped show them again how to open the individual packets. I'm happy to report that they all figured out how to open and take out each piece. \r\nOnce the pieces were on the cabinet I showed them how to arrange them. Then the balls came out! Woah! The kids were super eager to play. And this is why I knew this would be such a great resource. Without these materials they are unsure on how to engage and participate with toys and leisure activities. \r\nFrom the bottom of my heart thank you so much for giving my students opportunities to play, share, and engage.","fullyFundedDate":1758598154543,"projectUrl":"project/magnetic-minds-at-work-building-creati/9744304/","projectTitle":"Magnetic Minds at Work: Building, Creating, Discovering!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Avila","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1349367_orig.jpg?crop=944,944,x16,y124&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1598743752815","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mavila"},{"teacherId":1349367,"projectId":6504650,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my preschool special education students.
