Our youngest students (first grade) are just learning the basics of how to sign-in, add objects to their workspace, change the sizes, and delete objects from their workspace. While they are not ready to print any designs after two weeks, the students are much more comfortable using Tinker Cad. Next week, their regular classroom teacher will begin a 3D printing project as part of her curriculum. The students who have attended STEAM Club will be able to help their classmates with these basic skills, and their designs will be printed and sent home to their families for the Winter Holiday Break. \r\n\r\nOur STEAM Club students in grades 2 thru 5 have already had some exposure to TinkerCad, so they've been able to create a little more. Grades 2 and 3 are designing pencils cups, which means they're learning to manipulate a shape, and to hollow it out to create a cup, and then added the decorations they choose. Grades 4 and 5 were told that they could freely design a model of their choice. Some students have designed fidget toys, and some have designed gifts for family members. \r\n\r\nI have 3 more teachers lined up to print 3D projects as part of their regular curriculum after the Winter Break, and our STEAM Club will do a couple more rounds of Tinker Cad and 3D printing projects throughout the year. I am thrilled to now have enough filament to tell students, \"If you design it, I will print it!\" The students are learning new skills and building their resilience and ability to troubleshoot problems and solutions. As a Title 1 school, this is an invaluable opportunity for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1755741238068,"projectUrl":"project/3d-printing-brings-kids-dreams-to-life/9367934/","projectTitle":"3D Printing Brings Kids' Dreams To Life","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Benson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10039734"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_4719","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":399,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":48,"percentAsian":37,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":14,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":35,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":59.5,"schoolId":4719,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Nimitz School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Nimitz School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/cupertino-union-school-district/nimitz-school/4719"}
