We are so excited to continue to give the out this year. The look on their faces when they first saw the copies of Wonder by R.J. Palacio was priceless—many of them eagerly flipped through the pages, excited to dive into Auggie's story. Our Wonder read-aloud and discussion sessions have become a favorite part of the day, sparking insightful conversations about empathy, kindness, and inclusion.\r\n\r\nOne specific project we've undertaken is using the growth journals and social-emotional writing prompts to reflect on the themes of Wonder. Each student has been creating a \"Kindness Chronicle,\" documenting acts of kindness they've experienced or shared throughout the week. This has not only reinforced the book's message but also fostered a supportive and compassionate classroom community.\r\n\r\nThe Zones of Regulation poster has also been an invaluable tool. During morning meetings, we use it to help students identify and regulate their emotions, which has greatly improved our classroom dynamics and student self-awareness.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to build on this foundation by exploring more literature that encourages empathy and social growth. We'll also be incorporating the journals into a new unit focused on personal goal-setting and resilience.\r\n\r\nThank you for making these moments possible.","fullyFundedDate":1733273589655,"projectUrl":"project/compassion-quest-journey-to-kindness/8551771/","projectTitle":"Compassion Quest: Journey to Kindness","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1222376_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722819819099","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-hernandezluvzjava4life"},{"teacherId":1222376,"projectId":8504508,"letterContent":"Your incredible generosity has made a world of difference for my students, and I am so excited to share the impact your contributions have had. Thanks to you, our classroom is not just a place of learning—it's also a space of warmth, comfort, and care. \r\n\r\nWhen the warm blankets and snacks arrived, the students were thrilled. The blankets have been especially appreciated during our reading and quiet work sessions. Many students wrap themselves up, creating a cozy environment that helps them focus and feel at ease. The snacks have provided an extra boost of energy during the day, ensuring no one has to learn on an empty stomach. \r\n\r\nThe blender has been a game-changer for our classroom. We've started a smoothie-making activity where students get hands-on experience creating healthy, delicious snacks. It's been a fun and educational way to talk about nutrition and build life skills. The antiperspirant wipes have also been a discreet yet invaluable addition, helping students feel fresh and confident throughout the day. \r\n\r\nOne moment that stood out was when a student, while sipping on their school made smoothie, exclaimed, \"This taste so good!\" Moments like these remind me just how impactful your kindness has been. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to continue using these resources to support both academic and social-emotional growth. The snacks and smoothies will fuel our brains, the blankets will provide comfort during chilly mornings, and the antiperspirant wipes will help ensure every student feels their best. \r\n\r\nThank you for showing my students how much they are cared for.
