Our decision day consisted of a free lunch catered by Raising Canes, a scholarship ceremony funded by local patrons, and perhaps most importantly, a raffle that was made possible thanks to our donors at DonorsChoose. Ultimately, the Centennial staff raffled off several baskets composed of the donated materials as well as a plethora of college readiness essentials. Ten different students were selected at random, receiving either an iPad, AirPods, a blender, a Brita water filter, a speaker, or an Airfryer. In addition, each of these students received seminal materials for the transition into college such as fans, laptop chargers, pencils, pens, \r\nsilverware, toiletries, etc. \r\n\r\nReflecting on this wonderful event now, I am overwhelmed by the impact that our community has had on our youth. Approximately 90% of our 230 students are first generation, meaning the majority of them have no experience with regard to post-secondary education. They are the first in their families to navigate college, and unfortunately, many of them cannot afford the materials that are essential for a seamless transition into college. However, with the help of you, our gracious donors, we have supplied our scholars with readiness baskets that will substantially ease the stress that comes with starting college. Furthermore, all of our students have experienced your benevolence in one way or another, allowing them to pursue higher education with the confidence of knowing that they are supported. \r\n\r\nOverall, you have all made a tremendous difference in the lives of our students, whether that be by way of donating or by selflessly sharing our project. On behalf of Centennial High school and its senior class of 2025, I want to emphasize the immense amount of gratitude that we hold for all those who have contributed. This project started out as a vision with no real expectations, but it quickly came to fruition in an unimaginable way. We are ecstatic that our community came together in solidarity to support such a high achieving group of disadvantaged youth. Our students' lives are forever changed, and for that Centennial is eternally grateful.
