We cannot thank you enough from the bottom of our hearts. \r\n\r\nStudents enter a space of calm thanks to our sensory fish aquarium greeting them. They immediately say hello to the fish and jellyfish as they enter. I have noticed an improvement in emotional regulation and communication due to this item. Younger students that are working on building their language skills have shouted \"hello\" \"fishy\"and \"jellyfish\", when walking in. Students are then better able to focus on their academic work after watching our new classroom pets do a calming, magical swim in their ocean tube. Many of the sensory fidget tools have provided the motivation that our students need to initiate their academic tasks. \r\n\r\nAs you walk further into our classroom students are greeted with ocean themed borders that line their work and photo wall. We have been using the ocean animals emotion match during our social skills lessons. They are helping students get more excited about learning about ocean animals and their own emotions. I have observed them supporting some of our students during moments when they need calming and attending to their own emotional self- awareness. \r\n\r\nOur Kinder and 1st grade students have loved working for extra play time with the ocean sea life figures. They have been practicing labeling them by name and it has increased their learning of ocean animals. They will say \"stingray\", \"whale\", \"dolphin\", etc and sort the animals by color. They have supported with an increase in their play and communication skills as well. \r\n\r\nFurther into our classroom students are welcomed and comforted by the ocean themed rug. It is beautiful shades of blue and students feel as if they are swimming in the ocean surrounded by seaweed while sitting on it. I have enjoyed seeing students that need an alternative work space bringing their learning materials to the carpet to engage in learning numbers, letters and colors. \r\n\r\nThe calm buddies have been very popular with our older students as well and have helped them focus on their breathing when they need to take a break during their day. They have brought so many smiles to our students faces. \r\n\r\nLastly, our giant sensory starfish and otter have become our classroom mascots and have supported students in making connections to the ocean and each other. I have enjoyed seeing students holding our sensory starfish while reading chapter books and giving hugs to our classroom otter when they need an ocean friend. \r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for these new classroom items and more that have made our classroom such a happy and calming space that has helped students in their academic and social emotional learning. I feel as though it has also sparked a lifelong interest and appreciation for their coastal community, as well as a love for learning about the ocean.","fullyFundedDate":1756310833860,"projectUrl":"project/ocean-themed-sensory-classroom/9623751/","projectTitle":"Ocean Themed Sensory Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Purcell-Helfand","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10189250"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_39912","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":201,"numTeachers":12,"percentFrplEligible":79,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":21,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":74,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.3,"schoolId":39912,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cambria Grammar School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cambria Grammar School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/coast-unified-school-district/cambria-grammer-school/39912"}
