You could feel their energy as soon as they entered my classroom, excited to see one another and eager to learn. I used to begin our day with the usual attendance, morning meeting and our daily calendar activity before diving into math. However, students these days need more, much more, to refocus that energy into learning new things. Research has shown that many students lack the opportunities for daily social and constructive play inside the classroom. \r\nBecause of your generosity, my students now start each and every day with Creativity Time. My students spend about 10 minutes each morning working independently or cooperatively to make whatever their imaginations dream up. At first, students explored each set of materials to see how they could be put together, taken apart, and formed into different shapes. At first it was difficult for some, with some feeling frustrated and unsure of what to make. \r\nBut with each every day, their creativity soared! They built ingenious vehicles, from cars to rockets. They built homes and towers. During a special challenge, students worked together to see how tall a tower could be built. They experimented with various shapes, discovering through trial and error, that sturdy bases were needed to support their structures. Each group was so proud of what they made!\r\nWith this brief time each day, my class looked forward to coming to class each morning and tardies decreased. Their ability to focus improved, and the class as a whole was more productive. My students interacted in more positive ways by sharing and cooperating. They learned and appreciated one another's skills. It truly brought about a sense of community and helped students connect on a different level other than learning the \"basics\".\r\nSo I want to deeply express my gratitude in providing these materials for my students. Each and every day in my classroom, begins with creativity, ingenuity, imagination...we truly synergize.","fullyFundedDate":1737648639127,"projectUrl":"project/creativity-and-imagination-build-strong/8984347/","projectTitle":"Creativity and Imagination Build Strong Minds!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stenberg","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1405084_orig.jpg?crop=1864,1864,x103,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1595961839545","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1405084"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_62326","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":580,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":43,"percentAsian":20,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":54,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"18.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":94.6,"schoolId":62326,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Olympic View Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Olympic View Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/chula-vista-elementary-school-district/olympic-view-elementary-school/62326"}
