It is swarming with children each and every recess and is a favorite part of our outdoor play space. It has really enriched our community studies, and students have enjoyed bringing it to life. It has become a pizza parlor, an ice cream shop, and so much more. Their imaginations are limitless, and it's a joy to see them collaborate and create experiences in the space. It's provided ample opportunity to strengthen social skills as students have to work together with safe bodies, kind words, and respect. They have taken pride in caring for the mini community space, too, and are often seen sweeping up with the little hand brooms. We are full of joy and pride!\r\n\r\nWhen our students first saw the playhouse on our playground, they were ecstatic. They were jumping up and down with joy and couldn't wait to play and pretend together! They have had a blast using our little community materials but have also enjoyed making it into their own little community spaces, including a fire station, home and restaurant. \r\n\r\nIn the spring, our kindergarten students will be taking a real community field trip to visit areas in our own community, including a fire station, coffee shop, doctor and dentist office, and model homes. These powerful connections to our play will strengthen their understanding of our community, community helpers, and how they and their families are valuable parts of something larger than our classroom walls.
