If I can find the right questions and prompts as a teacher, I can learn so much about what they are thinking and feeling with these simple analog tools. In Health class, we discuss many sensitive topics and using the class whiteboard, a lab group whiteboard, and/or an individual lap board can be an excellent way to get the discussion going. We laugh together when someone shares something funny and empathize when someone is brave enough to share the sad or difficult things teens are dealing with.\r\n\r\nIn Zoology, we are constantly drawing. I love to use \"Draw to Learn\" as both an observational and assessment tool. Not only can the students show me what they noticed or are thinking but can also use those visual cues to make connections to other phyla or animal adaptations and behaviors we have discussed. It is also an excellent way to draw out the creativity in these scholar artists.\r\n\r\nI can't thank you enough for your generosity in providing these tools. We use them almost every day in class as a kinesthetic learning tool. Thank you, thank you, thank you for providing these opportunities for us. The dreaded cold and flu season. The cacophony of sneezes and coughs is starting to crescendo. In my windowless classroom, there is no way to escape. The pathogens are coming for us...\r\n\r\nAlthough it reads like a bad horror film prologue, it is our reality. Our school is a series of downtown buildings that have been repurposed as classrooms. The building we are in has no windows and poor circulation. When one of us is infected, it quickly spreads to many of us in the classroom. While tissues and disinfectant wipes might seem like a small or basic thing to others, they are both big and necessary things for us. Having tissues for students to sneeze into instead of spraying their pathogens into our shared air is an important first step in slowing the spread of disease. Have disinfectant wipes to use regularly on the desks which service up to 150 students each day is also an important line of defense. These actions are also a practical connection and skill that we learn and practice in our Health classes.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generosity in providing these basic elements of hygiene to our classroom. We sincerely appreciate the levels of protection you have provided for us in this season of shared sickness. We are hoping to keep more people healthy with their proper and constant usage.
