Students worked incredibly hard on their projects. They looked carefully at the plot of an Ancient Greek myth then planned out a collage with their partner. They painstakingly photographed each collage piece entering the frame and landing in place. \r\nThey developed their planning and problem solving skills to create their collages. They had to plan ahead to clearly communicate background, mid ground, and foreground. This combined with their study of emphasis made the creating the layout a real challenge. On top of that they had to learn a new program on our iPads. The stop motion software was challenging and required patience and persistence. \r\nOur final display is set up in our hallway and people are constantly stopping to watch the videos. So often they hit a creative wall and will encourage each other by saying \"Trust the process!\" or \"Make it Work\". Independence is a point of emphasis at our school and this tool has provided that. Normally to make straight and accurate cuts I would have asked students for a cut list and spent my after school time on the table saw cutting the dimensions they provided. With the bandsaw the students can set the fence to get straight and angled cuts that are accurate. This means that they can create their projects in real time and make adjustments on the fly. It also mean that my after school time can be used to work with students instead of making cuts.\r\n\r\nThe bandsaw has also provided another avenue for student leadership. Each class has multiple students who are an expert on the tool. After I train them, the experts are able to assist others in the safe operation of the bandsaw.
