The students who will participate in this project are all of my 8th grade students (51 in total). We are a fully-inclusive school, which means all students will participate and collaborate, regardless of real or perceived abilities. This includes students from a variety of local communities and socioeconomic backgrounds, English language learners, and students with disabilities. My class is both a math and science class, where I design projects and lessons that apply both subjects to real world problems. At this grade level students are starting to make a lot of their own decisions in their daily lives. We are feeling the effects of water shortage all around us, and this is a critical time for them to know the sources and impacts of their direct and indirect water use on their community. This project will hopefully give them a chance to make educated decisions on their water use and use of other natural resources.
