Students are using manikins, AED trainers, and instructional materials to practice high-quality CPR, proper hand placement, compression depth, and rescue breathing while connecting each step to how oxygenated blood is circulated through the body. One especially powerful moment was watching students rotate through skills stations and coach one another using correct anatomical vocabulary—several students commented that this was the first time science class felt directly connected to something they might need to do outside of school.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the CPR training materials, their reactions were a mix of excitement and seriousness. Many were surprised that they would be trusted with professional-level equipment and that they would leave the course with a certification adults often have to seek out on their own. The reality that these skills could save a family member, teammate, or stranger made the learning feel meaningful, and even typically quiet students became more engaged and focused during hands-on practice. \r\nStudents completed the course and earned their full CPR certification by demonstrating mastery of both the skills and the underlying anatomy and physiology concepts\r\n\r\nNext semester, the materials received through Donors Choose donations will significantly enhance our Forensic Science class by giving students hands-on experience with authentic investigative tools. Students will develop critical skills such as evidence collection and preservation, observation and documentation, data analysis, and scientific reasoning as they analyze mock crime scenes and forensic evidence. These resources allow students to practice thinking like forensic scientists—asking questions, forming hypotheses, and supporting conclusions with evidence—while also strengthening collaboration, attention to detail, and real-world problem-solving skills that extend far beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1758404210757,"projectUrl":"project/developing-critical-thinking-and-life-sa/9702548/","projectTitle":"Developing Critical Thinking and Life Saving Skills in Science","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gubary","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/571923"},{"teacherId":9586727,"projectId":9695571,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of our recent project on DonorsChoose. Your contributions have made a significant impact in our classroom, and I'm excited to share how we have been using the new resources you helped provide.\r\n\r\nRecently, my students embarked on a dissection project, initially aimed at exploring the anatomy of frogs. However, due to unavailability, we switched our focus to squids. This unexpected change turned out to be a remarkable experience for my class! The students were fascinated by the unique features of squids, from their complex beaks to their vibrant colors. They approached the dissection table with eagerness and curiosity, and their eyes lit up with excitement when they first laid eyes on the new dissection tools. Previously, we had to manage with basic supplies, but the new tools allowed us to explore the squids in detail, enhancing our learning significantly.\r\n\r\nOne unforgettable moment came during our first dissection session. As the students carefully used their new equipment, I witnessed their confidence grow. Their engagement soared as they made observations and shared insights with one another. It was incredible to see them collaborate, ask questions, and truly immerse themselves in the learning process. Your support has not only transformed our inventory but also sparked a sense of wonder and inquiry within my students. \r\n\r\nThank you once again for believing in our classroom and for providing us with the resources we needed to create such a memorable learning experience. Your generosity has made a lasting difference in the lives of my students, and I can't wait to share more updates as we continue our exploration of the ocean's wonders!","fullyFundedDate":1757423322963,"projectUrl":"project/leaping-into-learning-with-frog-dissect/9695571/","projectTitle":"\"Leaping into Learning with Frog Dissections\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Padgett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9586727_orig.jpg?crop=504,504,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757296590673","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9586727"},{"teacherId":9620463,"projectId":8541749,"letterContent":"The donation of middle grade books has had a transformative impact on my 8th grade students, opening doors to new worlds and sparking a renewed enthusiasm for reading. Many students, who previously struggled to find books that resonated with them, have discovered stories that speak directly to their experiences and interests. With a diverse range of genres and topics, these books have encouraged reluctant readers to engage more deeply with literature.\r\n\r\nMoreover, the availability of these books has fostered a sense of community within the classroom. Discussions about characters, plots, and themes have become more vibrant and inclusive, as students eagerly share their insights and perspectives. The stories have also served as catalysts for critical thinking and empathy, allowing students to explore complex issues and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the presence of these books has bolstered literacy skills and my students are more motivated to read outside of class; this increased exposure to literature has contributed to their overall academic growth.\r\n\r\nThe impact of the donation extends beyond the academic realm, as well. The joy and excitement that come with discovering a new favorite book have brought a palpable energy to the classroom, creating an environment where learning is both fun and fulfilling.","fullyFundedDate":1733016113599,"projectUrl":"project/ya-middle-school-classroom-library/8541749/","projectTitle":"YA Middle School Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Price","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9620463_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761234016586","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9620463"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_98070","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":621,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":78,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":88.2,"schoolId":98070,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Aspire Vanguard College Preparatory Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Aspire Vanguard College Preparatory Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/california-department-of-education/aspire-vanguard-college-preparatory-academy-/98070"}
